@ksurfier, @LL75,
It is important to note that the actual UTQG grading is done by the tire manufacturers themselves. They conduct the tests according to the guidelines set by the NHTSA and then assign the grades based on the results. There can be some variability in how different manufacturers interpret and apply the standards. The UTQG rating is not a perfect predictor of tire life. Real-world factors such as driving habits, vehicle maintenance, vehicle type, and specific road conditions can all influence how long a tire actually lasts. While a higher UTQG rating can be a good indicator of potential longevity, your mileage may vary!

Can someone point me to good options for 20" strongish rims? R1T, lots of gravel roads, occasional 5000# horse trailer and others, but mostly pavement. Currently on 21" OEM Pirellis, 15+K mi down to 5mm / 6/32". Looking for strongish (because of trailers) but not super pricey. I don't really care what they look like... (famous last words). I've seen mentions of Atomic AW01, AW09, AW10; MSW 52 (not sure where to get out here in MT); not sure how to compare them. Want to switch to 20" tires, General Grabber HTS60, Yoko Geolander CV4S, or Goodyear Wrangler (what's the full name, and is it a 115S or 116T?) when these are done.
Hi! We’ve got plenty of options! If you’re looking for a strong, heavy-duty wheel, the AW08 is a fantastic choice. Grear model and super durable! Check your DMs for more info!

So, i'm assuming the new good year wranger AT that made for Rivian is at 580 UTQG will not last long either.
Correct, being a snow tire at only 580 and a temperature rating of “B” - it’s safe to assume this tire would not be a longer lasting tire like AS+3 or the Defender M/S2.

but I actually see some safety benefits to tires that wear faster, often they cost less too.

Some clarifications… The Goodyear tire has the 3PMSF symbol. It is not a dedicated snow tire that may have tradeoffs in other performance areas. There are many examples of 3PMSF tires with good tread wear. The UTQG temperature grade is for high speed capability. Tire Rack has a good explanation of UTQG… https://www.tirerack.com/upgrade-garage/what-are-the-uniform-tire-quality-grade-utqg-standards

how are yours wearing, imagine you have a tire gauge handy and know how many miles you have on your set? Any data would be helpful for anyone interested in the Goodyear Wranglers.

So far, so good. Not a ton of miles on them.

I'm interested to see how these do in the snow, did y'all do any snow testing? My AT3Ws are ?? in snow, especially compared to stock Pirelli ATs which almost drifted me into a concrete wall turning at 15 mph.

Snow performance was definitely factored in to the design.

Made the switch from 21s today to the Goodyear Wranglers with EV wheels. Will update with wear and efficiency in the future. Efficiency was 2.34 over 25k miles.

I know it has only been a few weeks... but any updated data on this combo? We have identical R1T, and that wheel/tire combo is in my shopping cart now...

So far I am happy with them. Efficiency is 2.13 but only 610 miles so it is hard to compare yet. There is little discernable difference in ride quality and noise. The 21s we a bit smoother but this is to be expected - still an amazing ride for a truck. I don't notice it unless I try really hard to. Hope this helps. Will post updated numbers from time to time.

Quick update on efficiency comparison between the Pirelli 20” AT and the Yokohama Geolandar CV 4S:

Pirellis @ 6,675 miles were 2.16 MPK

Geolandar CV 4S @ 14,050 miles odometer (~7k on tires) are 2.22 MPK (~3% more efficient than 20” OEM).

Vast majority of the miles are in All Purpose driving mode. Average speed of 36 mph.

Rivian R1T R1S Affordable high efficiency 20" wheels and 33" tires options (275/60R20) IMG_1736

After watching this video from TyreReviews showing the Michelin defender ltx m/s performing better than 3-peak tires, I’ve changed my outlook about the importance of 3 peak -

Based upon TireRack testing of the Michelin defender ltx m/s (the m/s2 performs similarly to the m/s) and continental terrain contact h/t, the continental performs better in wet conditions which should translate to performing better in snow conditions than several/most 3 peak all terrain tires?!?

Another potential option is the Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive in 275-60r20 - https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-ca/car/catalog/product/scorpion-weatheractive/275_60-r20

Interesting review.

Wet performance and snow performance do not necessarily go hand in hand. Some tires perform well in both, some perform well in one, but not the other.

2.17 at 1,900 miles. Rivian updated the software for the wheel change yesterday.
