Ouch, yes this happened to me. Sitting at a stop sign and got t-boned by a teen driver and his g/f.

Turns out the frame was bent after it sat at the repair shop for 2-months. They totaled the R1S and placed me in the R1 shop to grab a new one (beats the 4-year wait for the 1st one).

Not sure how old yours is from delivery date? Mine was about 4-5 months. My insurance paid everything, including the non-early adopter price, taxes etc.. Think they had fun going after the teen with state minimum insurance ;)

Hope USAA is in it for their customer's like my insurance was...
I'll ask the same thing everyone else wants to know, who is your insurance company?

At the time of the accident it was Nationwide Private Client. This was helpful as Nationwide underwrites Rivian's insurance.

Apparently NW Private Client is getting out of the personal coverage game so my broker switched us to Cincinnati insurance at renewal. I mention this as I asked about my R1S accident and she said they would have handled it the same.

I'm really not the guy to be answering this, but I recall seeing a thread where someone bought a Gen 2 camera off ebay and was asking about sticking it in their Gen 1. Iirc the consensus in comments was that the older vehicle wouldn't be able to handle processing all the additional data.

Am sure if it's possible, someone will figure it out eventually. ?
I was thinking more of Gen 1 camera replacement that got us to clear 1080P resolution. There are after market cameras for many other brands of cars that provide better resolution.

Make sure you get money for the depreciation value of the rivian, from there I would get another rivian, my bet is it will be a total loss.

Just spoke to my estimator Turns out there may be frame rail damage in rear which would mean an entire new frame. Which would mean the value of my Rivian would be slashed for resale.

I suppose I will go after her insurance for a replacement car or difference in lost value at least. Has anyone ever dealt with a situation like this?
I have every state is different, Texas has no statutes so you get what they offer and have no leg to stand on, other states help out a ton

I was rear ended at a light in a new Dodge 300 M. The shop took 3 months, the ins. refused to pay for rental car after 2 months yet it was they that did not total the car. the frame or something was an issue, the new car was devalued, I lost almost 20 grand, it had 5K miles on it. My point is, make the insurance or the other driver pay for the value loss as well as repairs.

I was nearly stopped at a red light, when a 16-year-old brand new driver on her phone sped up and totaled her car into my back bumper. Some thoughts about this after two weeks.

First, my R1S is a tank and provided good protection. kids car was totaled with four airbags going off. She is ok

Find the right repair shop. I found the best one, but I'm currently arguing with USAA about the work that needs to be done.

The cameras are amazing. Not only is their insurance paying for everything, but they paid for my deductible and are being aggressive in trying to offer a settlement. 4K cameras don't lie!

I'm hoping to get my beauty back in another week or two.!

Did the rear Rivian camera automatically capture the collision or did you see it coming and turned on the rear camera?

I got rear ended by a pizza delivery driver (Domino’s!) in December. His car was totaled, mine was driveable and the damage was not bad considering how rough his was. I dropped it off for repairs 1/06, and I don’t get it back until tomorrow. Be ready for a potentially long haul.

Thank you for sharing. Was there frame damage? May I ask who your insurance was, what was total bill and did they pay for all of it? Thx!

all accidents are automatically captured. When an impact occurs Rivian automatically saves the minute prior and minute after. So 2 min total !

I wish that were true. But, reality will probably be her parents picking up the tab.
Probably, but if her parents aren't idiots, the girl will still be facing consequences for that. If it were my kid, he wouldn't be driving unless he paid the premium increase with a part-time job.

You're both right. I could have used some of that when I was young. Probably would have done far less stupid things then.

I just went through this. Rear-ended and totally other driver's fault. Had to go through my own insurance company and they declared R1T total loss. Then fought with me about amount for ACV (actual cash value). Don't agree to any amount unless it's enough to find a suitable replacement (first offer from them was $55k but same car selling for $63k). They didn't pay up until I threatened to bring in my own appraiser (this is your right) and six weeks of haggling. Remember, insurance companies have a strategy not to pay what they owe. It's called Deny, delay, depose. They will be counting on you to get frustrated, need a car to get to work, and take their offer. They will say "this is our final offer" but it never is. You'll be lucky if they declare total loss because after fixing it your Rivian will have diminished value from being wrecked and depending on the state you will not be compensated for this. Better off reaching a good settlement and buying a similar car with similar mileage.

In a situation like that subrogation can be especially helpful. When we were in our XC90 T8 and were rear-ended by someone while we were stopping for a red light (they claimed it was green but it didn’t change their liability) it also took nearly 2 months to get it fixed. Their insurance was GEICO so I submitted the claim through ours and ignored theirs. We don’t pay for cut rate insurance so I didn’t want to deal with one that is known for nickel and diming shops, especially when I’m not their customer. I also arranged our own rental instead of taking the rental our insurer would have arranged. After we returned the rental when ours was ready I submitted the receipt to our insurance. We had it for more than 50 days and it was also more than what our daily and 30 day maximums were as per our policy. They passed the receipt onto GEICO (along with full subrogation of our claim) and we were reimbursed in full for the rental through our policy and our car was fixed with all new Volvo parts with painted parts factory painted (Volvo offers factory painted parts - waiting for the rear bumper cover to arrive from Sweden added 2 weeks to the repair). It was nearly $26k between repairs and rental.

Volvo a better company and product than Crysler in my experience. I was so pissed off I did not want to fight, I just sold the car at a loss and drove on.

I've never worried about getting into an accident with any other vehicle. Now I fret about it all of the time...not because of my driving but because of others. I fear this exact scenario: I get hit, not my fault, but it costs me a ton of $$$.
