It was around 84° outside and had the air conditioning set to 63°. I noticed it wasn’t cooling particularly well. About five minutes later I opened up the expanded display and noticed that the vents were all red per the photo. Shouldn’t they be blue? Anybody have an idea of what’s going on?

I’ll have that happen every so often if I’m preconditioning the cabin. A tap of the A/B button or the Auto button will correct. Annoying fo sho

I think that’s a different red than the heating red. The red you’re showing in your attached picture indicates fresh air was being brought in, active cooling, wasn’t necessary at that moment.
just a theory of mine, can anyone confirm this?

Do you have it on auto? I never use that. May want to try an infotainment reset if it keeps doing that.

I think what you’re describing is usually grey.

Per the picture, on Auto and recirculating. I always have it on those settings. Since auto never works very well, I may just try using manual in the future.

The vent flow can show red, but that doesn't always mean the heat is on, it's a wonky system that has worked like that since the first Rivian's were delivered in late 2021.

Did you hear the A/C compressor running?

The air was blowing cool, not cold so the compressor was definitely running. Even though the temperature was turned all the way down and it was hot inside the cabin. The fan was not blowing very hard. Maybe just a software anomaly it’s too cold outside for me to check today. I added it to my Open service ticket, which has been scheduled four months out.

When that happens, just ignore the red lines, it will usually change color by itself in a few min. It might be sampling the actual vent outlet air temp and since your vehicle was hot inside the vent air was still above the 72 deg (or about that temp on most Rivian's) that is the dividing line between red and blue color airflow indicators. This is the same reason when it's cold outside (and in the cab) and you put the heat on you see blue lines at the vent outlets for a while till the air heats up a bit. You just have to learn to ignore it.

I have had similar problems. Also found that if it is a cool day (55) and the sun is shining, the system seems to think that the cabin is also 55 even when it is quite hot due to solar heating.
I just keep playing around with it and eventually get the cooling I want.
Would like to see a real solution.
