What if it's an R1X with a quad motor, but a less powerful one, priced around what the tri-motor is, but replacing luxury goodies with more off road/adventure goodies but locking differentials.

You beat me to it! I was going to say I hope it is native NACS, which would be something substantial. Instead of a new interior color combination, which might be really great, but it is not worth the marketing hype. "California Dune" fits all the images released so far. Unfortunately.

It could easily be done with software tap a button on the screen that locks either the rear, front, or all 4 corners.

Sounds cool but not what they need at this point to be profitable.

This could be really profitable for them. They already have the quad motors, all they'd need to do is do some beefier tires from the factor, maybe code in a 1 inch lift into the air suspension, make all the skid plates standard and all that. Price it just above the Tri motor which means wider profit margins for them.

In other words, they already have all the ingredients in the kitchen, why not make something a little different that would make money? Look at how well F150 Raptors are STILL doing. Even the new Ram RHO has some demand to it, even with all the loud people shouting "IT DOESN'T HAVE A V8!!".

If Rivian touts itself as a "Lifestyle Adventure brand", it should make as lifestyle/adventure of a product as they can possibly make. Why do you think they even showed off the R3X to the public?
