Made a round trip the other day to a L3 desert and topped off at an EA location in Madison WI; SOC said 85% good for 265 miles. The trip plan had me at about 200 miles back to the EA charger before heading home.

I drove the speed limit, flat terrain, 35 degrees out, and not any major wind yet my R1S sucked that charge down to 10% by the time I made it back to that EA location. I have 21" wheels. Speed limit ranged from 55 to 70.

Of course the only EA charger open would not activate (the person after I tried also failed). I had to wait for someone to leave so that I had room to maneuver to a working charger.

not a good experience.

What exactly was the bad experience?

Was it the fact that you only got 85% of your expected range while spending at least some time driving 70mph on the highway in 35 degree temps.

Or was it the fact that you had to wait for an open charger. Plug share doesn’t seem to point to any issues at that station but I do see that EA is de-rating one of the chargers to 50kW. Also looks like you had posted a complimentary report.

I just made the trip from Chicago to Minocqua.

Drove 70-75 mph, actually beat the nav system estimated arrival values each time.

One thing to change, if you use the in vehicle nav, do not set the destination to the charger, the precondtion isn't worth it. Just set it to the Walmart.

And that ea station was a little slow for me too, only 100kW max from the 150kW stall, 20% to 85%.

that report I posted was from the start of the round trip. The disappointment is in getting 75% of the estimated mileage range. It was stressful to roll in on fumes.

I could see that. By math you still averaged over 2 mi/kWh while not outstanding I think that is a pretty good winter efficiency on the highway. Given the limited availability of DCFC in Wisconsin I imagine that is a very popular location, I guess waits are common during busy times.

Honestly 75% is pretty dang good given your weather conditions.

I've found that the MTE range on the driver's display isn't great for highway driving. It's based on SoC and your average consumption, so if you don't do mostly highway driving it's going to be overly optimistic.

The navigation SoC estimate on arrival seems to be much more accurate because it seems to be based on more complex logic (speed of roads, etc) although sometimes it's overly pessimistic to a fault.

Not sure which direction you were coming from, but the new Costco in Verona has a ton of chargers. I haven’t used it yet, so no review from me

I have pulled into gas stations on fumes so many times i cant even put a number on it. Relax. Your experience was fine.

good point. Gaffer tape fixes everything
Count, have you checked the MGE charge center downtown Madison? Much better charging, never a wait and cheaper.

Surprised at your results. Just did a ski trip this morning, 160 miles round trip up and down mountain passes. My R1T was dead spot on range estimate (started at 300, ended at 141) and I got ~2.25 mi/kWh efficiency. I’m quite pleased! All of this was in anywhere from 15-60* temps.

Rivian R1T R1S 85% 265 miles got me 198 miles and down to 10% 17F6BC5D-ED43-4314-8D7A-CFEF6AE76DFA

I was heading up to Appleton so the Walmart's chargers were closest. I probably should have stopped at the 50kW charger in Beaver Dam but it seems wrong to have to stop twice for a 200 mile round trip.
