HEST Foamy mattress pad + R1S Gen2 Fitment

I was one of the lucky (unlucky?) few who managed to snag the R1S foamy by Hest during their recent restock. I gotta say, little bit disappointed with the fitment.

I wonder if dimensions between Gen1 and Gen2 changed slightly, because for all the hype around “specially designed” it sure seems sloppy.

One minor thing, that I can explain away with “production efficiency”, is that the two sides aren’t mirrored. They’re both the same orientation and it’s a little OCD triggering to see the flaps be on opposite ends

Does anyone have the Lumo mattress, and if so does it fit better?

Have you reached out to Hest? I tried to preorder, but was on a call and missed it. Curious if Hest just says, well this is how they are or if there is an issue they missed.

That doesn't look fitted. I assume you flipped it and rotated it too? Tried all different combinations? None of them fit perfectly? I can't believe they aren't mirrored.

I have two still unopened in my garage that were delivered last week. I can open them up later and tell you if my fit is the same. For $800, I am expecting them to be amazing.

If not, I will be making use of the $4.98 "Free Unlimited Return Valid in US" that was added to my invoice.

I dunno, while the Hest might be comfortable it just seems way too expensive and I do not care for the two piece design. I had a bit of sticker shock when I first looked to get one.

For under $250 I went with the Lost Horizon hybrid mattress. They now have one that was made for the R1S - I have a Gen 1 and it fits perfectly and feels great. Foam on top and bottom and an air chamber in the middle if you want to add firmness, etc... It is also self inflating.

Yep, flipped and rotated. Looks like it’s simply two of the same. I reached out to them to see if it’s an oversight, but if not then I’ll probably return them and try out the Luno or Lost Horizon models

honestly, those look like you have them installed backwards, front-to-back... i can't believe this is how they were designed. also notice the large gaps in front of the armwrests? i'd think those would be behind the armrests and the mattress would end before the tailgate bumpouts...

but switching them would result in the exact same issue, because they’re not mirrored. The giveaway is that the flaps aren't on the same side

I considered maybe they were upside down, but the other side is definitely a bottom material.

I tried swapping sides again and no luck. If there’s some orientation I haven't tried that ends up working I’ll eat my words and re-enroll in geometry again

Or maybe this is why all the photos either don't show them fully installed, or always have people on them so you can't see how poorly they fit. Super disappointing now that I look at the various marketing photos on both the rivian and hest sites... for instance, if you look at this photo, you'll see the Hest logo on the left side and some sort of flap on the right side. I assume both sides are identical and just get rotated, but since the armwrests are not centered, you get these large gaps. That's just a terrible design if that's all true.

Very well done video, btw. I was curious to see how this compares to my Exped MegaMat Duo I use. I got mine on sale at REI (but probably still more than the Lost Horizon) and before I saw they had an Auto one. I do wish I had the extra armroom, but I also like that mine looks like it packs up much smaller. I can easily fit mine into the trunk storage area, along with the blanket we use.

yeah great catch - I wish I spotted that earlier.

so much money on marketing and brand videos…

some of the other brands that aren't trying to hug the wheel wells might have been on to something.

Tbh not sure how much value there is in having mattress between the rear of the wheel and the liftgate anyways. seems like doing away with that would have solved the most obvious fitment issues.

While it’s not for Rivian particularly, I found it decently comfortable and more than enough for 1 person. Unfortunately I couldn’t fit it in the rear under storage when folded :/
