$3500 for Black Rims on Launch Edition is too much - after market options?

People are focused way too much on only the wheel size.
In Rivians case, the efficiency of the wheel/tire combos they are offering will be (from most efficient to least):
21s
22s
20s

The 20s will be the least efficient, even thought they are on the smallest wheel size. A number of factors come into play, but likely primarily because the overall diameter will be larger, with lots of heavy rubber near the circumference.

Not to mention it’s an All Terrain tire which will undoubtedly have a higher rolling resistance.

I was thinking of ordering a Rivian set of off road 20” and getting the LE with the 22” as I would probably be using it more on-road with some lite off-roading until I get to know more people that know the good places to explore in NorCal. I have always wanted to do more off road activities and the Rivian gives me the on-road and off-road performance in one vehicle.

So I am interested on what the forum recommends for 20” rims to use.

So I am just reading this thread on overpriced 22" rims and agree. If I change my config now, will that change my delivery date? I thought I read that any changes would result in delays.

Any change could result in a schedule change, you have no way of knowing though what that change could be. Could move you up could move you back. Nobody knows. I don't think Rivian even knows.

After reviewing the poll below, nobody who ordered the 22" Black Rim/Wheel package has taken delivery. Seems like opting out would speed things up!

There's been quite a number of black 22 deliveries of late.

If you're delivery ETA is in the next 2 months, don't change a thing in your config. If furtger out, change away.

Just installed my custom forged wheels yesterday. MonobloK 6061-T6. Made in the USA. Any color you want. I'm not a fan of the OEM wheels. The black version are the best looking, but a $3500 upgrade for an OEM wheel made in China?

These weigh 3.5lbs less are .5" wider than OEM and on a 38mm offset as compared to the OEM 48mm. I'm convinced Rivian missed the offset and that is why tires rub on the Lowest ride height on compression bumps. The extra 10mm off the offset moved the wheels out 10mm, which was a help in fitment and looks.

I'm convinced Rivian missed the offset and that is why tires rub on the Lowest ride height on compression bumps. The extra 10mm off the offset moved the wheels out 10mm, which was a help in fitment and looks.

Offset is based off the center of the wheel. Adding half an inch of width and losing 10mm of offset means that you only moved the wheel out a bit over 3.5 mm.
