Okay - I'm laughing here because my wife considers KoP to be "her" mall even though it's about an hour away from us. We're able to get there and back comfortably as long as we start with an 85% SOC, but we often hit the Shake Shack on the KoP mall perimeter on trips where we're on the PA Turnpike and it will be good to know that we have a charging option nearby.

Yeah, the Electrify America chargers at the mall are always busy. At least There is a large Tesla supercharger station just north of the mall On 202.

I wish they chose somewhere other than KoP, where there is already EA and Tesla chargers, and more of both 10 minutes down the road in Malvern. Plenty more highways in PA with barely a charger to be found.

I'm with you on that...State College would have been a perfect place (at least for me).

Or the completely empty charging desert that is the 83 corridor from Harrisburg to Baltimore...

Seriously...Hagerstown has a RAN - Why not Shrewsbury?

I've been driving from Lititz to Reston VA a lot to take care of my father - you were not kidding about people just getting in the left lane and staying there like the right lane is cursed! It's maddening! Makes me happy that one of my friends got pulled over on 83 near Shrewsbury for cruising in the left lane at 5:00 am - she didn't know it's not allowed! Sadly he let her off with a warning...

To continue along this off-topic route (pun intended), the nearly-universal American highway driving trait of staying in the "fast" lane at all times is one of my pet peeves. As someone who lived and worked in the UK and Europe, I can safely say that it is an almost uniquely American. Folks elsewhere in the world keep right (or left in the UK & Oz) lane except to pass. Not only does it show courtesy to other drivers, it also keeps traffic flowing more smoothly and more importantly, is safer for all.

There is a joke on the other side of the Atlantic that goes something like: "What do you call a driver in the left lane (right lane if in the UK) who won't move over? An American."

To return to the actual topic of this thread, while it's great to see more RAN changers anywhere, there are many places in PA that need fast charging, but KOP isn't really one of them.

With ownership demographic data, tons of historical travel data, and some "foreign" charging network user data (Tesla, ChargePoint, etc), I would assume that Rivian chooses these locations based on that data rather throwing a dart?

One would hope.
However, one would also hope they're good about doing REAL analysis about where things are needed. Ala the "Bullet Hole Misconception": https://medium.com/@christian.dobbert/the-missing-bullet-holes-and-abraham-wald-25e68d7a870f

I suspect there's a lot of misguidance as to where to put DCFCs for this very reason, when taking a macroscopic look at where they're currently focused. In my lay opinion, DCFCs tend to be moreso focused at ORIGINATION and DESTINATION populated areas, rather than along the route.
Granted, this does enable people that live in those metro areas that might otherwise not have access to EVSE due to being apartment dwellers or leasing/renting.

For road-trippers, and long-range commuters, DCFCs should be peppered along long-route spans, not focused in and around cities...
