Hello, I have some photos of the 23Zero Armadillo on the R1T. I’m putt this in its own post because I believe I’m going to do a full review to the tent. So far though, life has got in the way and I haven’t been able to go off and camp! Hopefully next month. Right now it’s spend the money and. Nothing. I’ll work with the wife to get some camp time soon I hope…

Otherwise, the set up went well. The tent is heavy. 180 lbs. Four of us put it on the bed rails without a problem, but it was four of us. The brackets are barely big enough to fit the Rivian racks. The screws are towed in a bit for it to fit. I‘m not taking the tent off the racks, it will all be lifted off as one piece as others have done. Calculate the extra cost into your RTT if you plan to do the same. I’m not going to go over the setup and takedown of the tent here as 23Zero has videos that cover it well. I will say that it is fast. Taking my time and thinking about it all it is 2ish minutes to put up and less than 5 to take down.

The fit is good. It goes over the bed and about 2” farther than the tailgate but for me it doesn’t feel too big for the truck. It is not right up to the back window because it needs to clear the roof faring. Once up, the window canopy at the cab side can use one of the spring rods, the other side will have to be tied off. From the rear view I may look like it is mounted off a bit but that is just one side sinching down tighter than the other. I expect when I put some pillows in there it will even out.

If you have any questions about install, setup or breakdown let me know. Also any questions about actual camping let me know. I’ll answer as best I can, if I can get camping…

is there any range hit with that? Seems to sit pretty well along the roof line

Looking forward to the review on the tent. The condor xl, Yakima, and this one all seem like good options.

Interesting hinge design that appears aimed at more interior height.

Really like the look of this— looks like it’d allow for you to keep your bedding and pillows inside— can you confirm?

Thanks for sharing. Been looking at the ikamper mini, but it appears this one also pops up in the back side which to me would appear to provide more interior room. At 6'3", want to make sure i have enough room. Wife will never get inside it, so it's all mine, but still, that pop up in the back could make all the difference. Did you look at the ikamper mini? If so, why did you choose this one? i'm first timer here on RTT, so looking for any guidance possible to avoid making major mistakes here. This tent looks amazing, and i went to the video link of the manufacturer which was helpful. Thanks

It's unfortunately the opposite. The 23Zero has 42" of interior height according to their website, but the iKamper and Roofnest have 48" and 50" respectively.

I'm personally either going with the iKamper Mini 3.0 or the Roofnest Condor Overland since it has exterior accessory rails which is awesome.

Anyone set up an RTT with a travel trailer, like a Taxa Tiger Moth? That's what I think I'm going to do when I get my Rivian in 18 months. Not a cheap option, but I really like the idea of the tent being on the trailer permanently and leaving the trailer at the campsite if I have to drive anywhere, plus all the other benefits of the travel trailer.

I'm thinking that pulling, rather than carrying is probably the way to go...at least if you aren't willing to weigh everything...this could be an issue even with rooftop campers.

The problem really is that while the truck can pull large loads, it can't carry them. I have the Launch Edition with underbody shield and a spare (everything weighs something). This is my load limitation:

Figuring my wife, myself, two big dogs, clothing, water, food, a tent...well, I'd really want to figure the weight of the rooftop tent solutions, cooking stuff, etc. just to make sure I wasn't overloading.

So any update on your experience with the tent? I am hoping to purchase an RTT around Black Friday.

This one was not on my Radar, but I like the ruggedness of it, it seems better built than the iKamper, probably why that one weighs 55lbs less... but I have not seen either in person yet, so that is purely based on pictures.

Seems like most of us are considering the same tents - iKamper 3.0 Mini, Roofnest Condor Overland and then this one. I am curious why you picked this one over the other two?

One tent I have not seen much is the CVT Mt Washington, which has similar dimensions to the 23Zero. Maybe the price is a dealbreaker for most?

I have the same tent. Bedding fits but only rolled up by the hinged side of the tent where the small back window is. Works good.

‘I’m 5’11” and I wouldn’t recommend it for people much taller than me. Sleeping sideways will work fine if you’re alone.

Couple of points about my tent (same one.) Use an adjustable bungee for the side awning closest to the cab. I’ll try to send a pic. Using your roof mounts for the crossbars as your anchor.

also, for those considering this tent, you can order a LH or RH orientation. I ordered a backwards mounting tent so that the aerodynamics would be backwards on purpose.
