Anyone know just how capable the 21 road tires are for off road adventures??? Rain, mud, snow???? Thank you all in advance.

No personal experience but have a look at what Sandy Munroe did with the road tires on an off road course. I was going to go with the a/t tires but after seeing what the 21s can do, I can’t imagining needing more tire. I think I’d rather have the additional range. I’ll just make sure to carry a spare since the 21s will be harder to source.

i think for most of us the 21s will be more than enough. the main issue for me is that there's literally only 1 choice for tire and its the Pirelli's the vehicle comes with. so many more options in the 20 and 22.

The 20" are more strongly constructed tires. The 21" will be more vulnerable to off road damage. I can't imagine occasional use would be a problem. Alex on Autos latest video shows a lot of slippage on the 21", never got stuck, however. Doubt he would have observed anywhere near as much with the 20".

Is the mileage penalty (-13% or so) of the 20" worth the offroad benefit? Depends on how you intend to use the R1T.

The all-season 21" tire is going to be good in the rain, decent in the snow, and weak if you hit clay-mud.

For loose rocks, the extra sidewall height/protection of the 20" will offer a slight advantage.

For light and moderate off roading, the 21" should be fine.

I would roll the dice on the 21s if there were even 1 AT tire I could replace them with if I didn’t like them. I am still baffled by this choice as their stock included tire. Why didn’t they just use a 20” AS designed for maximum range?

Is it to be expected that tire manufacturers will eventually create other 21" tires? When there are more Vehicles on the road....

The 21s are 35” so probably not, especially in the lower suspension settings. The 20s are 34”.

I have quoted the Sandy off-road course as well and he also mentioned how there were other people in serious 4 wheel drive vehicles that were getting shown up by the R1T in the 21s.

I think that the R1T performance despite the wheel selection speaks volumes about how capable the 4 motor and suspension setup is.

Bottom line, you probably aren't going to go wrong no matter which wheel size you go with. You are giving up some range with the 20's over the 21's and 22's but if you aren't planning to do serious off-roading, the 21's are the sweet spot.

One thing I have found reading reviews on the Scorpion Verde (21s) is that people weren’t too happy with the treadwear. Even though it’s rated for 65k many were replacing by 30k. That’s not a problem exclusive to Pirelli - just something to keep in mind.
