Been talk of 2026 model years but hadn't seen anyone post these yet. I find it quite curious that the Launch trim code made a return when it went away in 2025. "Entry" went away (not sure they ever used it?) and "Special" is new as well. What's up your sleeves, Rivian?

Part of me is hoping that "Special" is the Trim code they'll use with NACS vehicles.

wouldn't "Special" be for special editions like "Dune Edition" to keep from seeing clones/fakes?

You don’t figure NACS will be standard from that model year forward?
I could see it being an option at first. I personally don't need or want the complication of having two different port types on vehicles at home, and I can't believe I'm the only one. If gen2 quad comes out with only NACS ports, I plan not to buy one and suffer only having the second fastest drivetrain. Maybe once NACS becomes more common to encounter at non-Tesla charging stations, I'll make the consideration. I had hoped the charging industry would be quicker to pick it up, but they're dragging their feet too so far.

Not such a big deal to have 2 different ports. I have a J1772 charger at home, the Tesla L2 adapter is super easy to use and has not been an issue when charging the Tesla. Don’t expect to have an issue when the R2 arrives either.

And yet there is a mob of hold-offs who see the adapter as a cardinal sin. Or, they associate NACS with better charging curve. They cling to these beliefs like religion.

Can’t argue with that as I see tons of those posts. I’m just not one to agree with them.

One of my home chargers has CCS pins, because it's designed to backfeed off the DC port, which adds to the complication. I wouldn't want to just leave the CCS part hanging exposed.

Special is Likely things like the Dune addition. Odd they would have still have "launch" but that is probably a placeholder for R2, Unless they are planning a quad launch addition.

For the vans, 2 thoughts I had:
- I thought all the vans were FWD so far, but they have a code for AWD
- looks like a right-hand-drive model for export to UK etc?

Thank you for posting this exact thread. I am holding out to hopefully purchase the 2026 R1S and could use this information to (hopefully?) get an insurance realistic quote before i commit to the car. I have seen some stories in NJ of other cars around $4K, so a bit worried to add to the cost.

Like everywhere else, insurance rates are going up BUT the car is amazing and certainly worth it. However, the significant other may not agree with me on this one.

Curious about the "Position 9" calculation, so I will wait for some more input if we can predict/calculate the character that we can give the insurance.

Stay safe, and be safe friends!

They've had the RHD export on the list since at least 2024, but I do believe this is the first time AWD has shown up. Wonder when my Rivian fleet guy will reach out about it since I told him that was one of my requirements- AWD and a larger battery.

In 2025 the C on the 6th digit is for a tri motor but in 2026 that’s going to be a B. Strange to change up that naming convention.
