Why not just be happy with your Tri motor then?
Don't get me wrong, I don't need the quad. My point that Rivian needs to get on with their existing roadmap. They've already committed to a high-HP performance quad Gen2 and have yet to get it out the door, they should finish that up, get it to customers who want it, and then really focus on R2/R3 mass market, rather than spend any more time chasing incremental HP gains on their halo products (which won't have mass market appeal).

I'm over the d*** measuring contest over HP.

I'd rather have a vehicle that makes less HP, but is a lot more reliable/functional.

Same with cars that are .05 seconds quicker at Nurburgring. Won't be noticeable and won't matter to 99.9% of drivers.

When we spent a week towing the camper with the Sierra, getting back into my R1T did feel a little cramped. But that feeling only lasted the first drive. Going back and forth between a Rivian and the Sierra mostly just disappoints me when I get on the throttle in the Sierra. I wish there was a way to default the max power mode to on instead of having to hit a button every time.
You have a tri now right? With how much torque my tri has, it feels like a different car than my old quad did, and that was fast. I could imagine the Sierra feeling like you were stuck in quicksand with the throttle differential.

From all online communities, I'm convinced some people enjoy complaining—and purposely and routinely put themselves in situations that give them cause to complain.

TBH the absolute last thing public roadways need is a 1100hp 9,000lb suv.

Agreed give me 450-500 mile range, this means my power curve to 80 percent is 340-400 miles which is awesome and in bladder limits of driving...Hummer has a create power curve to 80 percent. Super cruise is pretty good also. I feel like RJ is trying to chase the shiny object but cant fix serious bugs give me an infotainment system that I can text read to me while driving...premium look and feel but not so great under the covers...No I do not want Carplay or AA, Rivian to adopt Android Automotive I am 50/50.

Forgive me Lord RJ for I have sinned.

I was scanning autotrader and found a used Hummer EV that I kinda liked. They were asking $72600 so I decided to take it for a test drive. I have to admit, I really liked it. The styling is a bit cartoonish but the kid in my digs it. The interior was VERY comfortable and the ride was smoother and MUCH quieter than my Rivian. The only major downside is its size. Oh LAWD this thing is huge. My garage is barely wide enough for it to fit but it would fit. At the end of the day I decided to pass. I can get a new Silverado EV for a similar price and it qualifies for the federal and state tax credits. A used Hummer does not. It also needs new tires, which adds at least another $2K to the price. That said, it was a very sweet truck. I was tempted but I’m keeping my Rivian, for now…..

Here’s the truck in question if anyone is curious:

I test drove one too. They are fun, but I'm surprised you said it was quiet. With those plastic roof panels the one I test drove was substantially louder than my Gen1 and night and day different from my gen 2. The ride is smooth but floaty as hell. I do like it though.

The panels on the one I drove didn’t have any glass in them. Could that be the difference?

Other notes:
- Having Carplay support was very nice.
- Crabwalk is fun and I can see using it regularly on the trails. But it’s still a gimmick.
- The resulting 4wheel steering is not a gimmick. The Hummer EV has a turning radius that is very comparable to my wife’s Mini Countryman. It might actually be better.
- Storage Everywhere. Just when you think you’re out of storage area, BOOM more storage.
- The shape of the windshield and the relatively low ceiling make the interior feel smaller than it actually is. But it’s more cozy than cramped.

I really did like it, but $72K with no credits makes no sense when the Silverado EV LT is about the same price with much more range and still gets the tax credits. I may go test drive a Silverado EV today.

I also test drove a Hummer EV SUV before picking up the Rivian R1S. It's an incredible machine and has great space in the second row (the trunk area, not so much - super wide, but high and low height). It's a very comfortable highway machine and would likely soak up bumps on our pitted NJ roads much better than the Rivian but it's a bit too wide for regular use in these parts where the roads can be narrow (300+ year old towns, what can you do). Downsides were:

- cabin noise - all roof panels are plastic BTW - either opaque or transparent, most noticeable at highway speeds
- small cargo area in the rear
- felt underbraked given its mass
- too floaty under acceleration and around turns
- 3 yr / 36k mi GM warranty is well below average
- embarrassing efficiency

If I lived in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana or other places with more highways and wide open roads around towns it could be an incredible daily. In central NJ it would get relegated to weekend duty which defeats the EV purpose for me.
