Not a good one. From the beginning they've been hanging their hat on Driver+ saying that you won't need resume. Driver+ will be bwtter. Maybe now that they've abandoned Gen 1 Driver+, they'll reconsider.
There must be another explanation... Tesla doesn't have a resume either.

I'm assuming the reason is for simplicity. Tesla went for extreme minimalism both visually and with their basic controls. Definitely what sets them apart. Rivian copied them.

Personally I don't mind it. I think the whole idea of cruise control being on, but not active, is over complicated. I like the idea of a single interaction (one pull) and it's on. Done. Simple. Another interaction (brake tap or one push) to turn off. Just an easy on/off.

If you're having this discussion I'm guessing you don't feel the same. But whether you like and agree with the decision or not, I think they did it to keep required interactions (and physical controls in the cabin) to a minimum.

I don't know but it is still annoying to have to re-establish the targeted speed with the throttle instead of simply resume it...

I’d like to cast a vote for side mirrors that tilt down when in reverse. The camera view really only works during the day…when it’s not raining.
Mixed emotions on this - I have it my GX470 (and leave it off), my wife had it in here old LS430 (and left it on) - but Lexus makes it easy to disable (move the little L/R mirror control to the center). Lexus uses plastic/nylon gears in the mirror controls and they start to degrade after a few years if they're used regularly like that. Even though I kept the GX for dog park duty, we share the R1S and it's already quite annoying to switch between drivers (pet peeve is the lumbar support - she is smaller and needs it all the way deployed (because Rivian engineers were all "big boys", as evident in the lack of steps / running board) and I'm normal and prefer it retracted. But at least there's a switch for that - if I had to ANOTHER tap dance through the UI to change a setting every time...that might drive me over the edge.

So maybe if can be changed with the steering wheels controls, but count me out if it's yet another (non-user setting) screen dance.

EV native OS and apps have gotten so good, I don’t miss CarPlay one bit.
Frankly, the more time I spend on Apple Music, the less interested I am in adding SiriusXM, which has also lurked on the periphery.

Since it wouldn’t be “true” satellite radio, there isn’t much point as Apple Music (and I assume Tidal and Spotify) get performance improvements with each iteration. If the R1 had a SXM Sat antenna then it could be massively valuable to those who really go into the hinterlands.

I agree....we were out into some hinterlands this weekend in the Jeeps and having proper SXM with antenna was nice. Phones had no signal most of time....but having true sat audio was nice. I certainly can live without and since it would be steaming.
..it wouldn't work without a cell signal anyway...

fix the bugs, improve the slowness/responsiveness please. you can skip adding new features if you work on this tech debt. were willing to wait.
This X10000.

User selectable wheel and tire sizes! For crying out loud.
This is one of the better ideas I've seen tbh.

I had a mobile tech at my place today specifically to address my version of the Apple Music bug. He was unable to fix it but assured me it was supposed to be resolved in the OTA when .43 rolls out. That'll be nice if so, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wonder if they can add your library for Apple Music for offline use. As in, if you are off grid in the outback’s with no service you can at least hear that library after you download it without using Bluetooth with your phone.

> Improved Live Cam streaming to reset the one-hour daily limit at midnight if you stream for an hour a day. Also fixed a rare issue that caused streaming to fail.

I didnt realize we had 1 hour daily streaming limit for Live Cam... good to know.

> Fixed an issue that prevented the garage door opener prompt from appearing in the driver display even though the vehicle was at the location associated with that garage.

yay!

Audio quality improvements:
  • Adjusted the tuning curve to improve clarity and remove muddiness.
    • Rebalanced the soundstage to be centered.
    • Fixed an issue that caused crackling noises during a phone call.

Release notes for G1;

https://riviantrackr.com/2024-43/

New Lock Sound for the Day or Night
You now have the option to set the exterior lock sound to a bluebird chirp or an owl hoot. You can also set it to Day/Night, which alternates the lock sound between a bluebird chirp during daytime conditions and an owl hoot during nighttime conditions. Go to Settings > Vehicle > Access on the center display.

(Thank you r/Rivian community, for the feedback.)

Driver Profile Enhancements
Your driver profile now links to your media streaming accounts, so when the vehicle recognizes your driver profile at the start of a drive, the vehicle automatically loads your media streaming accounts. Supported apps include Apple Music, Audible, Spotify, TIDAL, and TuneIn.

Your driver profile also saves your media, climate, driver assistance, and units of measurement settings. Climate settings include vent positions, vent presets, and Auto mode status.

Place AI Summaries from Google Maps in Navigation
With Connect+ on your Rivian vehicles, navigation now displays Google Gemini AI summaries for many places, from restaurants to national parks.

Cabin Climate Improvements
To enhance your cabin climate comfort, we’ve made the following updates:

  • If the air conditioning is turned off, the temperature controls become fan speed controls at the bottom of the center display for quick access. We also improved the consistency of the fan speed control.
  • To more accurately convey the temperature of the conditioned air, the airflow depicted on the center display now shows different shades of blue for cooling and red for heating.
Additional Improvements
  • Fixed an issue that caused Apple Music to fail to play audio.
  • If the vehicle is equipped with an auxiliary air compressor, improved the behavior so the vehicle remains awake while inflating a tire or other item.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the garage door opener prompt from appearing in the driver display even though the vehicle was at the location associated with that garage.
  • Improved notifications if offline sensors affect the phone key setup.
  • Gear Guard app improvements:
    • Updated the notification behavior to more clearly inform you if the onboard hard drive becomes full or close to full.
    • Improved Live Cam streaming to reset the one-hour daily limit at midnight if you stream for an hour a day. Also fixed a rare issue that caused streaming to fail.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) values on the center and driver displays to differ slightly.
  • Objects on the driver display now fade in and out for a smoother transition.
  • Made several infotainment stability and performance enhancements.
