Looks great - plus you got the color I wanted, so I’m a little jealous! Question: you said you used the 50-amp outlets at campsites - are these outlets using the plug that comes with the Rivian adapter? I’m new to a lot of the charging stuff..
Yes, the charger that comes with the Rivian plugs right in to the 50 amp outlet at RV parks

Fellow RV’er here and we towed our 27’ Flying Cloud from Bend to Temecula and back this winter and can confirm the 1.1 mi/kwh @ 65 mph but that would drop to 1.0 @ 70 mph. I expect we could achieve 1.3 if we stayed under 55 mph. 😊

We plan on “coasting” this summer to many of the Oregon State Parks by the ocean. See you there?

One of the most interesting and unexpected things about this setup is the amount of positive attention it gets. Almost every time I stopped someone said something positive about the “rig”. I hadn’t happened to me like this before. Even some homeless bloke oooh’ed and aahh’ed about it so much I gave him $5 to go away😁

Just spent three weeks and around 2,000 miles wandering down the Oregon coast and back up through the middle of Oregon from the Seattle area. I was towing an 20’ Airstream Basecamp. I had recently traded my 27’ Airstream in for the Basecamp. Now that my wife has passed I found the bigger Airstream to be too big, too heavy and not necessary for me and the three dogs.

I had no problems charging along the way using Rivian and Tesla chargers and, of course, the 50 amp outlets at campgrounds. I stayed mostly at Oregon State Parks. I don’t know how many have used them, but the state parks are just fantastic.

in a couple there were only 30 amp outlets and I didn’t have the proper adapter but I immediately bought one on my return. You have to get a specialized adapter and I got mine from EVSE Adapters.

i am one of those strange people who stick to the speed limit and try not to go over 60 when towing. I do keep an eye out and pull over for more hurried drivers. The efficiency was far better with the Basecamp and I got just over 1.3 as opposed to 1.1 with the larger Airstream.

I always set the ride height to medium and the ride feel to firm when towing. I have done 35,000 miles in my Rivian and still on original tires. They are at about 6/32 right now.

Thank you for the useful data and sharing your adventure. Looks great.

What is your motivation for setting ride stiffness to firm? I go with either firm or moderate and wonder if it’s better to let the truck absorb some of the vertical energy at the hitch or to minimize the motion at that point. My camper is lighter but I’d be curious to get your thoughts on this.

Thanks for the trip report and the update on our Oregon camp grounds. Glad to hear out tax dollars are being put to good use.

I think it is a carryover from the 27’ Airstream which was about 8,000 lbs. I just found that everything was more stable on the road when set to firm. The car didn’t bounce around as much. I wonder if others have the same experience.

Sorry for your loss and thanks for your post. This is my dream setup so I appreciate the info and great pics!

I’m renting a non-Airstream to take my kids on a “camper trailer trial” road trip from Orange County up around 2-3 points at or around Morro Bay, CA. It’s a ~22’ Geo Pro 19fbs, so I figure whatever efficiency we experience, the Basecamp 20x would be a little better.

3 of our 7 nights will be without hookups, but I’m expecting to be able to connect the trailer shore power plug into the Rivian using a 30amp to 15amp adapter, in case I need to top up the 12v system.

Do you (or anyone) have experience using a Rivian for low-amp shore power? I’m guessing we could probably run everything except the microwave and air conditioning.

I haven’t tried that yet. As long as 1500 watts will work for you, it should be fine.

Condolences about your wife passing. I would be hard pressed not to sell our 30' airstream and throw a truck camper on a long bed diesel and pull a cabin cruiser around under similar circumstances.

Nice setup.

I have run our small camper off the Rivian (lights, fan, and fridge). Usually, we cook outside so run the induction stove and water boiler separately off the truck bed outlets. But we have also plugged in the camper to help out the solar on cloudy days. Once, I even ran out of propane and was able to run the truma heater on all electric mode at its lowest setting entirely off the truck to keep us from freezing at night.

The 120 outlet in the truck bed works nice for low watt shore power use. I even get enough juice for the micro wave. Without the outlet I use the 200 amp Battle Born /Solar setup all day to power my mobile office.
