I was following directions via the ”old method” today… “drive 2 miles, look for the clearing on the left”.

Holy S**T how frustrating it is to try and find the odometer now. They buried it in Settings->Vehicle->About. The placement prior was terrible (why is this not on the dash???), and now they buried it further. Just wow.

Again, Rivian, not everything has to be reinvented...

Settings -> About

menu now contains:

Vehicle name: a setting (yay they got one right!)
Odometer: NOT A SETTING
Trip A: a status meter. NOT A SETTING
Trip B: a status meter. NOT A SETTING
VIN: NOT A SETTING
Interior: NOT A SETTING
Exterior: NOT A SETTING
Battery: NOT A SETTING
Motor: NOT A SETTING
Wheels: Can only be set by Rivian
Assembly: NOT A SETTING

This “About” screen was as already perfectly situated where it was. Negative advantage for moving it.

All arguments saying it’s better could equally be applied to its old location. But now since you have to go to Settings, you lose your “most recently used” widget where you didn’t before.
So not only is it in the wrong place, it alters the UI just to get to it!

Makes me wonder if the software team has ever driven a car.

To reiterate: Dumb.

p.s. put the damn camera in the tray

I was hunting for this today to reset and I literally couldn't find it, unreal how someone thought this was a good idea, it was right at home in that vehicle info tab.

I only have one like to give, so here's also a comment in support. All of it.

There's a LOT of usability and discovery ability that's missing from any of the updates since the truck was released. I feel like they don't have a Human Factors engineer anywhere on the software team.

I’ll add, when I DO want to use it, I have to switch off the camera by choosing the … menu and select settings. Settings are almost never in the “frequently used slot” because the Settings pages
hold long term configurations that are, by definition, infrequently changed.

Then I literally watch the Settings -> About menu (the last selection of the Setting page) switch off and back to the top of the Settings page. Then I have to select About. It was already flipping there, now I have to manually ask it to go back!

Now the - infrequently accessed, long term settings page occupies the “most recently used flex slot” - meaning the very next time I park, I’m again annoyed they changed the location because I have to hunt for the camera again.

All of that to check my odometer!

It’s mind numbingly stupid.

I hope I’m expressing just how dumb I think this was and how much I hate it.

Not a confidence booster that they are going to out code Apple and Google.

If you're running Windows, go to "Settings" - "System" - "About"

It's laid out in a very similar fashion and makes sense. I do think the trip comp should be more front and center on the cluster with an option in the left window of the cluster to reset/stats/etc as a 4th pane.

It may make sense for a laptop or desktop computer.

I don’t drive those.

Also, …Windows. (to be fair, I also hate that Mac OS adopted the System Settings style of iPhone in their newest OS. It makes sense for a vertical phone screen and totally sux for a desktop/laptop screen). Get off my lawn!

After taking a 1500 miles trip where, you guessed it, I was interested in using the - wait for it - Trip Meter, I can soundly confirm I _still_ feel this change is DUMB.

Not once of the trip, where I was interested in using a Trip Meter - like one does on a trip - did I not have to watch the previously selected About menu switch to the top Settings menu.

Furthermore, after each Trip Meter check, I had to switch the “flex spot” to a menu I was actually interested in like battery or camera.

I even had to get my odometer once to give to my insurance company.

With an open mind and 1500 miles of testing, yes, still dumb.

I have to agree. Just picked up my R1S today. Awesome so far.
But why hide odometer in layers of settings? RIVIAN: Please put odometer on the driver display screen.
thanks

I'm fine with most of the "About" stuff being in Settings. Nobody is really ever looking up what motor, battery, etc. they have.

At worst, the odometer should be one of the driver display options similar to the efficiency and tire pressure. But I guess maybe that doesn't work because you need some way to reset it, which is a problem because the left side controls work the audio?

2023.22 - look at all that white space in the vehicle app now that Gary is gone:

Could easily fit 17 trip meters there (not that I’d put it there, I’d have an “Info Tab” in the tray on the left (like it used to be).

Call me crazy, cause I go to the _vehicle_ app to get _info_ about the _vehicle_.

Agreed. We have easy access to as many as 16 garage door openers. We could have at least half a dozen trip meters in that space that could be accessed with one button.
