The excitement level of an R1S for sale is inversely proportional to the markup level.
Good looking spec, though.

Given that the first one on Cars and Buds “only” went for the low $120s this pricing seems ambitious.

yeah, I think the biggest markups to be had were with the R1T when there were literally none on the road. The R1S, while nice, doesn't really carry that first-adopter value. If it was VIN #1, 2 or 3, maybe.

I also think the appeal of the R1T was with all the new / unique features it had for a truck. The R1S while more versatile than a Tesla Model X, is “just” a 3 row electric SUV with a lot of storage. I put “just” in quotes because there are some obvious cool things like the air compressor and camp speaker plus ability to go off road, but I’m wondering if most people looking for a large suv family hauler have eyes that immediately gravitate towards those features. And maybe that would explain the cars and bids pricing plus as others have mentioned the hype of being first with a rivian (S or T) has subsided a little.

That R1S sold for $130.5k, though agree with this ask being ambitious.

Thanks, I was mistaken. I and I know others had expected the first to go for a fair bit more.

Speaking of that one…. The build looks very very similar to this one lol. Odds of that buyer being a flipper thinking they could swap wheels and make more?

The trend we generally see with new EVs is that the pricing can be a bit wild when they first hit the market and excitement is high.

And, a lot of them sell for these prices; there is a small-ish pool of buyers willing to pay whatever to have the latest and greatest EVs. But that pool is quickly exhausted and the 2nd and 3rd tier buyers then begin to look. Those buyers are willing to pay over MSRP, but not nearly as much.

Prices do come down eventually, like we're seeing with R1T: $135k > $125k > $115k > $105k > under $100k in many cases now.

We get questions about this so often that we wrote a lengthy blog post about it here:

https://www.findmyelectric.com/blog/can-you-flip-a-tesla-or-ev-for-a-profit/

We'd love to see the prices come down as much as anyone. FME's core mission is to accelerate sustainable transport by making EVs accessible to everyone. The truth is that many folks can't afford a $100k EV; the only way they can gain access to the EV world is to buy a 2018 Model 3 with 80k miles on it for $40k etc., and that's where we can really help.

We're also rolling out some cool new features in the near future to give buyers more tools as well.
