Not sure if anybody noticed in the configurator, when switching between wheel selections, the 20” bumped the overall height of the vehicle. I know it is a rendering...but......
Yes, I noticed that too. 20” (34.1” tire diameter) raises the height by a little over half an inch relative to the 21” and 22” (32.8/32.9” tire diameter). However, it seemed like the pictures showed a bit larger of a difference. Given the overall 6” height range adjustability, it makes me very interested to see renderings and actual pictures comparing max and min ride heights!

BTW, I'm not at all worried about on road performance of the 20" wheels, check out the pavement clips from this video:

So Rivian is still working to determine EPA range for all of the wheel options but it sounds like the 300+ range rating is based on the 21" wheel option. Since testing is not complete, they are not yet able to state that all 3 wheel options will be rated for at least 300 miles so it is possible the 20" and 22" wheels may come in under 300 miles...or maybe not. This news has left me feeling a bit deflated.....

Did you get that from a call/chat/email with Rivian?

So, can anyone think of a possible way to order the 21” wheels and not get screwed by the fact that there will only be one possible tire replacement? What about things like supply issues? I am fine using the 21” wheels and tires but I am worried.
Thoughts anyone?

My thought is F a non-standard, rare, and likely very expensive specialty tire size. There are suitable off the shelf tire replacements for both 20" & 22" wheels. You might lose a tad of efficiency, but not enough to warrant the expense & potential pain of going with those 21s. Disclaimer, the 22" wheels in general I expect to be the worst performers range-wise, but we shall see.

P.S. My F stands for "Forget", of course.

I think we can count on relatively expensive tires regardless of which size we choose.

I haven't done the same research on the 22s, but replacement tires for the 20s (non-Pirelli ATs or AS) are in the 250-300 range.

Not only will the 21s be extremely rare if you ever needed to replace just one, my guess is that they'll run $500+ each.

This is my general take on it as well.

The "safe" thing to do seems like just going with the 20" A/Ts. They are snow rated, most likely more durable than anything, and most likely the easiest to replace. If you are buying the LE, they are also the same price as all of the other wheels and tires.

That said, if you're NOT buying the LE, I really don't see there as being a "bad" choice. If you don't want to pay the price of the 20", and you stick with the 21", you have until sometime in 2023 (depending on how you drive) to see if more tire options develop, and you'll have the price of the 20" upgrade in your pocket for when it is time to do something.

Honestly, wheels and tires are the easiest thing in the world to change on a car, so I think the only wrong move is overthinking it.

Guess it wasn't wheel obvious if you had to ask. :CWL:
You're treading on thin ICE with that one, it's exhausting.

Bam, triple threat.

Which wheel is this? I am guessing it's a pre-production 21in wheel, but they've since added in carbon inserts into the triangular sections?
