I picked up my R1S (Green Machine) 2 years ago today. This was our first EV but was 100% ready to go for it. Before I picked it up I had a JuiceBox installed hooked up to a NEMA 14-50 outlet. 2 weeks after taking delivery we drove to Boston from central NJ for college tours, even getting hit by some snow on thew way home, truly learning by living.

What I love about my Rivian?
1. Size and interior space: we have used our third row multiple times as the vehicle is typically filled with adults, no issues and works great for short trips with adults in the 3rd row.
2. Storage space: We have done several college moves and I am always shocked how much stuff I can fit in this thing. Frunk, behind the second row or third row is just insane and something I have come to expect now from my future vehicles
3. Speed/Performance: Quad Motor performance is just crazy. Every time I hit the throttle it puts a smile on my face, never owned something like this.
4. Home charging: My JuiceBox has worked great, I don’t do scheduling just plug and change at home.
5. Plug and Charge: Doing this on EVGO or Tesla has been a welcome upgrade and something I hope others begin to offer.
6. Mobile Service: Had these guys out a few times to do tire rotation, 7500 mile service and they are always amazing.
7. Overall Quality: Aside from the a charging issue early on have had ZERO issues. Love this thing.

What I wish was different
1. CarPlay…. Not here to beat this dead horse but I do prefer it over the Rivian system
2. Service centers: I was told when I took delivery that the Edison NJ site was opening any day now. That site not only never opened but it is now officially off the list. I refused to drive to Brooklyn again. Did that for delivery, took me 4 hours round trip. Did it again for a problem another 4 hour trip. Trenton just opened and that is closer but with the number of Rivians in the area we need a central NJ location. Mobile service has also become hard to get an appointment with.

Service Visits
1. After 3 weeks my vehicle stopped taking an AC charge (couldn't get an appointment for about a month but it was fine as I had DCFC nearby)
2. At the 5 week mark my vehicle was dead in my garage. Turned out the charge port cover was stuck in a ‘close the door’ loop and drained the batteries. Rivian took it and a few days later they replaced the 12V, the charge port door and the charger (the no AC charge issue).

I did experience some fun with tires. This is not a knock at Rivian at all but a personal thing. Locally we have some tire shops or Mavis. At first Mavis said they will not touch an EV, which I found interesting. I ruptured a tire when I ran over something on I95 going 80mph. Had to have mobile service come replace the tire, no big deal. Wish I was explained how to use Tirejeck when I picked up the vehicle but easy enough to figure out. I needed to replace the other 3 tires a few months later. By now Mavis said they would do it, super nice guys willing to learn what is required to change the tires on a Rivian. I bought the tires on tirerack.com and Mavis did a great job. Unfortunately about 5 weeks later found a nail in the sidewall and had to replace a tire again. Once again Mavis was great. Tirerack also refunded me the cost of the new tire since they provide road hazard replacement.

Overall I am very pleased with Rivian and have had no issues since the charge port problem. Vehicle has been great and would gladly buy a Rivian again.

Thank you for your assessment. We are also coming up on two years with Opal (our R1T). Also, our first EV. We use the Rivian Wall Charger at home. It has performed flawlessly.

Our only mobile service was six months ago to replace the 12 volt battery. Opal has never center. The closest is Atlanta, 300 miles away.

Opal has been a great truck. We drive her every day. We have come to love the one pedal driving. We don't have any complaints with this truck.

Look out for Woodbridge, NJ. Some say a service center is opening up there this year.

Love hearing from fellow R1S owners! I live in lower Bucks, PA, and I just had mobile service come out for the 7500 mile service. I see SCs in Malvern, PA and Trenton now, haven't been there yet though. But I am assuming they'd start opening more. Also, we need one of the adventure networks in proximity of NJTP, somewhere in central Jersey. We have Tesla chargers, but they do get busy.
If you are aware of any Rivian clubs in the area, please let me know.

The Malvern PA sercvice center is open which along with Trenton, are both probably much better options for you in central Jersey than is Brooklyn, despite the added miles.

Hope you continue to have good luck with your Rivian.

Today I had to drive down to Virginia for work. Stopped in Belcamp MD for a charge, first RAN experience. Things worked as expected. About 5 minutes from my hotel is a group of Mercedes chargers, this worked well too.

I am not holding my breath. Edison/Iselin was 2 years in the making then just disappeared. Trenton is fine as anything is better than driving to Brooklyn.

Model Y, R1S on order
I always get a chuckle when people say ‘the Rivian has so much room!!!’

I’m coming from a Toyota Sienna. Now that thing has room. And it was a freakin great car to raise 3 kids in. Sliding doors, tons of space behind the 3rd two etc.

Wife got tired of the minivan. Wanted something different. Our Y has blown us away so we decided to go EV for a family hauler. The only thing that saves it is the frunk. Still nothing close to the space our Sienna had..

always wondered what people that say the Rivian is so spacious are comparing it to???

My R1S is considerably roomier than my Civic was, like by a lot!

I replaced a Jeep GC, lots more room in the R1S coming from the Jeep GC mainly because I always have 3rd row down and because of the frunk.

Yeah frunk totally saves it for us. As a family of 5, we’ve definitely had to compromise coming from a Sienna. But we knew that coming in.

Coming up on 2 yrs end of the mo.. My issues started on day 1.. had combined total of around 12 SC+mobile visits, and in all ~50+ issues resolved, but it was worth the ride, as I'm very happy now and cherish driving my R1S every day and looking for opportunities to run errands. My biggest gripe now is insurance premiums :(
