I have now been able to haul the family of 5 around for 2 weeks in the R1S. We have put on 999 miles to date and completed our first ever family tent camping. I posted a quick-comment post that can be found right here but this new post is to serve as additional follow up for hopefully others to answer my previous questions and journal new issues and thoughts.

I have now 3 and likely soon to be 4 open service center ticket items. It’s unfortunate I’m waiting until November to get these very most minor annoyances out of the way but on the bright side it’ll give me an extra month or two to find other problems which include:

I have now 3 and likely soon to be 4 open service center ticket items. It’s unfortunate I’m waiting until November to get these very most minor annoyances out of the way but on the bright side it’ll give me an extra month or two to find other problems which include:
- Dent in driver side pillar tweeter
- What appears to be a chip in the charge port door *although I sent a pic to SC they didn’t brush it off so unsure if this is intentional
- Driver side front door makes a sound as if it’s rubbing against something when opening and closing probably making something worse.
- The rear tailgate has refused to open or opened and immediately shut with no apparent reason.
- Driver side seat trim is separating
- Middle seat Rivian trim is separating
- Driver side back door weather stripping is crooked
- 3 misaligned panels I’ve found thus far with further scrutiny
- A knock or tock that sounds very similar to the turn signal being left on I will hear faintly at low speeds
- Cupholder middle fold down piece I feel like does not function as designed. It does not stay level unless you have the seat fully reclined which would seem to be ridiculous oversight
Going over to items that are more fun.. the good stuff.
- The Rivian is performing awesome as a family hauler. The bench seat 3rd row is becoming a game changer compared to what we are used too(captain chairs) for the reason that the boys now no longer hit, touch, bother or get into mischief. Even the shortest of trips has been pleasant. Very happy with that.
- Range accuracy has been spot on in all day to day circumstances.
- We used every inch of the cargo capacity of the Rivian for our camping trip.. this would not have been possible with any other SUV in my mind, only perhaps a Sienna or another similar minivan. Of course we don’t have any extended top cargo carrier.. that may be a new purchase
- Excellent sound system
- The white seats have been very durable and have cleaned up well. I do have an appointment planned for getting them ceramic coat
- Gear guard works well but I think it’s starting maybe 2 seconds too late in most situations
- 3rd row access works very well
- I think I’ve mastered the garage door functionality.. you need to be away from the door it seems a decent distance and do a double tap and it seems to work flawlessly that way. It’s not perfect tho so I will unfortunately keep my door opened still in the car just in case.
- The Rivian drives impressively smooth with no bumpiness. I got in another R1S an earlier VIN and I got sailboat motion sickness.. I’m not sure what’s going on with the difference between what I ended up with and what now I’m understanding others to be talking about. My R1S does not hit waves like a pontoon.
- I still can’t say I’m overly impressed with the acceleration but I’ve come to terms that perhaps electric cars have just dulled my reality. My neighbors 2024 M3 “feels” faster even if it isn’t supposed to be and by an incredible amount. Perhaps ICE vehicles at that speed are just more violent, but gas just feels better to 60 than all but the Tesla Plaid.
