I have a couple of trailers I pull once or twice a week. One is the same style build as yours pictured, but maybe a little longer. Another is a flatbed with a 330# IBC tank on it (this one sits higher and level) The one like yours got way worse efficiency (similar to yours) than the other. I took to the back ramp and made it removeable and store it underneath. Even though it is just expanded metal, I gained quite a bit just doing that. Then I also lengthened the axle mounts so the trailer would sit level without having to drop the hitch super low and put it more in the trucks envelope. Between the two things, I've been able to get the efficiency drop to a more acceptable level. Get somewhere in the 1.50-1.75 range most days driving 70. Just some food for thought.

Interesting observations. I’m on 22s, which doesn’t help. And, indeed, the trailer is hooked up to the bottom of an 8” drop hitch, even with the vehicle in low.

Made it from central Texas to the Rockies while towing two motorcycles on a trailer.

1111.7 miles
907.3 kwh

Average efficiency of 1.225 mi/kWh

Fantastic chariot. Endless power while towing, but gotta watch the speed to keep the range reasonable.

Very cool! Just curious. Did you drive north and across Kansas or did you go west and then up through NM? We have family in central Texas and have considered making it an R1T trip a few times.

Up I-35 to I-70. Mostly used EA chargers, which were ok. Got me where I needed to go, but not always a great experience.

Would love to get a chargers report on the good and bad ones. I've been contemplating a trip up to Ft. Collins from Austin but looking at my charging options in ABRP makes me a little nervous.

Finally got around to crunching some numbers on the trip. Bottom line is it would have been cheaper to burn dino juice. My other alternative as a tow vehicle would have been a 2003 F-150 Lightning. I spent $490 on fast charging for the round trip. Had I averaged 11mpg with the Ford, I would have spent about $430. And if I had driven the Lightning instead, I would have been able to take a more direct route that would have chopped about 150 miles--and many, many hours--off the trip. Next time I'll probably take the Lightning and leave the R1S for puttering around town.
