Drove up to Sedona yesterday, 7/20/2023 from Phoenix, AZ. Used the Sedona RAN and hit the Soldier’s Pass trail yesterday afternoon and the Broken Arrow Trail this morning.

My R1T with 20’s had better than expected efficiency on drive up. It was about 100 miles from central Phoenix to the Sedona RAN with about 3100 feet of elevation gain. Temps were in the 100’s. AC set to 74. 4 adult passengers with too much luggage. Ventilated seats on high the whole time. Conserve Mode the whole way. Drove about 75 mph. Driver+ worked quite well for me. Drive up was very pleasant.

The truck is like a cheat code for the trails. Makes things very easy. Strongly recommend these trails, just watch for crowds, especially Pink Jeep Tours, and especially when the temps are not miserably hot.

Trip Efficiency pic and Sedona RAN photo below. Trails pics to follow.

Sweet. Will be there in early October
Let me know if you need a place to stay. I’m staying at my buddy’s Airbnb up here. It’s quite nice. I’ll ask him for a Rivian discount on your behalf. It’s about 10 minutes from the Sedona RAN and has an amazing view (post trail beer pic included. I have no idea why off-roading is tiring. The truck is doing all the work. It’s not like I did anything).

And it’s 1.4 miles from the Broken Arrow trailhead.

Sweet! Going to check this out soon too. Inlaws live in Scottsdale so I'm in the Pheonix Area pretty frequently. Sedona is such a beautiful spot, but I've only ever ridden my bike, need to test the off road trails.

Mountain biking on either of these trails would be great actually! Do both!

I ran the trails in Off Road Highest. Would recommend others do the same. I was mostly in Auto, but I had some pretty significant wheel slippage on that rock in the second to last photo on the Broken Arrow Trail. I probably should have been in Rock Crawl. It’s a lot steeper than the picture captures.

The Steps on Broken Arrow (8th picture) scared my passengers. It was steeper than I anticipated. I was having fun as a driver. Passengers were jostling, grunting, grabbing the oh shit handles, and scared.

Great call out on the recommendations for settings, I've been curious about high vs highest. Going off roading this weekend for the first time in this truck out here in CA. Gonna see how the R1T handles vs my previous gen 2 raptor.

Awesome!! Yeah just did Broken Arrow last weekend and this RAN is perfectly located for a day trip up from PHX

I'll be hitting more trails up that way soon, we should definitely get a Rivian meet up to head that way! I still need to do Soldiers Pass. I have done Schnebly before, just felt it wasn't as fun as Broken Arrow, so always go BA whenever I take new people out, great views up there

Hahaha yes those stairs are no joke!

The crest at the top right before the stairs, I had to use the front camera to prove to my kids I wasn't driving them over a cliff! And yeah the stairs make you feel like your hanging in your seatbelt.... Great times!

Awesome pics. I assume you aired down? If so what psi?
Oh yes. Absolute must. I used what’s recommended in the manual:

Rivian R1T R1S Trip to Sedona From Phoenix. Hit Soldier's Pass + Broken Arrow Trail + RAN Station 1690072548817

Had some company at the Sedona RAN on the way home.

Trip efficiency pic on the way home. Had to stop at a rest area with pet mode on for a quick stop. Also took a detour due to road closures so it wasn’t the exact same route.

Bonus - my route took me close to the Phoenix Service Center. I saw my R1S on which I’m taking delivery on Monday!

Yes, a Rivian trail run in Sedona would be awesome! Maybe in the Fall when temps are not miserable.

I was going to take Schnebly on my way out to I-17 and then back down to Phoenix today, but my passengers had their fill of off roading after these 2 trails. Next time.

For Soldiers Pass, keep in mind Forestry only issues 12 passes per day. I was the only one out there a couple days ago, but in the Fall and Spring, you might need to grab the permit 2-4 weeks in advance. Maybe 12 Rivians should buy all the passes one day! ?
