Here is an up date to my update issue. Today Rivian did some diagnostics and determined that the 12V battery has an issue. They are scheduled to replace it at my home on Wednesday. Fingers crossed this resolve the problem.

To Cancerdoc, yes the car was plugged in and charged to 70% before the update was started.

I must add that my first experience with the call center over the weekend was not very impressive, however, today the two people I spoke with seemed much more knowledgable and made things happen. I'm not sure if this is a weekend staff vs weekday staff issue, but it was night and day.

Thanks for everyones input.

I'm sorry to hear about the bricking. Rivian has had seven years to solve this issue and still hasn't been able to do so. They stubbornly refuse to recall all vehicles.

The ironic thing is the release notes say "Fixed a rare issue which prevented software updates from fully downloading even in areas with good connectivity."

Sorry to hear about your 12V issues and the failed update.

On 51.02 here for my 2023 R1T Gen 1 Quad. No issues with install. On a 2 months old 12V battery myself.

The option to update from 51.01 to 51.02 appeared on my main screen Sunday but I was headed out…no longer an option in my settings or in app FWIW…will see if/when it reappears

Interesting. I had all the same problems, driver's door wouldn't open, FOB not working, garage door opener disappeared and the update seemed to install twice for an unknown reason. My 12 volt battery was recently replaced, so no errors there, but definitely something to do with the update, I think. A hard reset and three infotainment resets didn't help. After messing around with it for awhile, toggling the lock / unlock on the app a few times, it seems to have sorted itself out.

I did the update automatically at 4:00AM this past Friday on my 10,000mile R1S, went to get in the car Saturday and the doors would not open. No response to the key FOB either. The update window on my phone suggests the update made it to 19% and stopped. The call center is recommending a tow to the nearest service center 3 hours away. If covered under warranty (hu?) they will pay for the tow, but retrieving the vehicle is at my expense!? I've requested a service tech be sent to my home and I was told that I would hear from the dealership today, but at 1:00PM I've not heard from anyone. I've had a great experience with the car to this point, but something tells me this is going to be an ordeal.

I'd hold off on 2024.51.02. Anyone else have this experience?
R1T Tri no issues following update. Drive well.

@Rnut Do what you are comfortable with. If it were me, I’d use the 12V connectors behind the hitch cover (link below), jump the truck and hopefully gain access that way. Depending on the response from the vehicle, I’d retry the update with a trickle charger on the 12v.

That's good to know.. If Rivian had insisted on towing the vehicle 3 hours to resolve the issue I would certainly give this a try.

I had the exact same thing happen yesterday. I was driving miles from my house and my garage door
FWIW after the update our garage quick open button was glitching, and not appearing when actually at the house but randomly coming up when away. A reset seems to have resolved that.
sensor kept coming on. Haven’t tried to reset yet but I will.

Update .51.02 went fine for me except the stuttering it was meant to fix, actually made it worse, to the point where any time my finger touched and then moved along the screen, all music (not video) would skip or briefly pause.

I figured it was odd the issue it was meant to address in the hot fix, was actually what caused it to start. I did an infortainment reset after a few days of it, and it completely cleared the issue, thankfully.
This happened to me too. I did soft reset after it happened and it was fine. Happened to have my 7500 mile service yesterday and they notated it. I guess we will see 😬

Problem resolved. Conner, mobile Rivian tech, showed up this morning and replaced the 12V battery in the frunk. He texted about 30 minutes beforehand and spent about an hour and 15 minutes replacing the battery and checking the other systems.

Conner was very professional and knowledgeable. I was impressed to see that he was in a Rivian uniform with company van that was well equipped with tools and some parts. It turns out that he spends most of his time working on the ev-Prime delivery trucks when not doing an LS swap in his classic BMW. Nice to know kids like him still exist.

What I thought might turn into a major ordeal to fix was deftly resolved by Rivian and without a 3 hour tow to a Service Center. No need to sell my Rivian stock or cancel my R2 reservation... yet.

No issues here. But after update I didn't find any improvements either.
