Curious if you order an R1S now - what is the anticipated delivery? summer 2023?
Some people who ordered in 2021 have been given 2nd half of 2023 ETA's by Rivian, so for a new order now it is likely mid to late 2024, at the soonest.

Remember that it depends on a myriad of factors. Preorder date, proximity to SC, build configuration....

Speaking of camping….

The next step for charger installation is proper placement with a pull through setup.

I sure hope his team is thinking this through as they build out the ‘RAN plan’ and not just place 4 on a curb. And proper maintenance plan and support.

RJ is going to need support from business to take up more space.

He really needs my help with this. How can I sleep now? … I’ve open up my own can worms

I think I’ll call RJ right now… hummm very odd… right… to… voicemail 🤔

It’s time for ice cream 🍨 and then back to reading more adventurous topics…

I have a hard time believing I'll be the first non-employee delivery, but I haven't seen anyone else with a firm date yet, either. I bet there are already customers who've had theirs delivered, and they just aren't active online, but who knows?
BELIEVE(D) IT. Congrats man.

The why is because a 30amp RV plug is a different pin layout than a 14-50.
Sorry, I’m now confused and I am in no way an electrician. But, RV outlets are typically 30 amp 110v and EV chargers are 220v, right? Would the adapter from RV outlet to EV charger just be a 110 adapter? (Only getting the reduced charging rate?). Im really interested in this as I will probably be performing this task once I get my vehicle…

Updated Friday August 26:

Oh man. My post here didn't post! It errored out but I hid the tab and didn't notice before I headed out to the campground. Here's what I typed originally:

…but since my daughter is in bed now and I have some time, I'll try and make up for leaving everyone hanging by including a couple of bonus photos, and a summary of the day:

Delivery was scheduled for 1:00, but the delivery specialist overestimated traffic and texted at about noon to ask if he could show up at 12:20 instead. And of course he could. So, we kicked off at 12:20. Super friendly, knowledgable guy. He made the trip solo (rather than a driver + specialist that I've seen for some other deliveries).

Standing around the still-loaded flatbed we chatted about Rivian in general, the community, etc. He'd actually seen my post online earlier in the week excitedly announcing that I had a delivery date, and knew that was his delivery to make a few days later.

Once unloaded, we started doing a bit of a walk around. Before we really even got started he told me there were a couple of issues the SC had already flagged, but they decided not to hold up delivery. It's cosmetic stuff, so I appreciated that. We'll get them fixed at some point.

Over the course of the next 2 1/2 hours (yes he really spent that much time with me and my family, which is why I was scrambling to head out for our camping trip -- but it was a good reason to be late) we walked around the vehicle opening each door, talking about different cargo/rear/front features (lift gate, storage, folding/adjusting seats, etc.); and stepped through driver profile setup, and every detail of the physical controls and infotainment. When we got inside he asked up front if I wanted the summary speech or the detailed version, in so many words, and I figured I'd opt for the long form. It was all very well done. Delivery day paperwork was pretty minimal.

Since I'd never driven a Rivian (or any EV) he offered to ride along for a quick first drive (lowercase). We did a loop around some local back roads while he talked about drive modes etc. As I said to a friend:

I put about 100 miles on it after delivery today (delivered with 11 miles on the odometer), on back roads and highway and everything in between. I think I have a pretty good feel for one-pedal driving already (which I immediately switched from standard to high). Luckily my highway miles were on Driver+ mapped roads, and I let it drive me through stop and go traffic. It worked almost perfectly. The only time it quit on me was when I caught up to a pickup that was stopped in traffic, straddling the line with its right tires fully in my lane. It just quit and told me to take over. I went around him, turned it right back on, and Driver+ continued on its way.

Charging. I stopped at a Walmart to pick up a couple of camping supplies and they had 350kw ElectrifyAmerica chargers, so I plugged in. As I was standing there trying to figure out the process (first time!), it started charging. No payment made. Not knowing if that was normal I tried to figure out how to associate the session with my EA account, but couldn't find a way and gave up. It very quickly ramped up to ~212kw, then, after a few minutes, back down to about 40kw, where it stayed. I left it as we shopped, and somehow the whole session was free. (The final screen showed a total of ~$15, with a discount of an equal amount, for a $0 total). I have no idea why it was free, or what was going on with the ramp up and throttling, but hey, free electrons.

Back at the campsite I plugged into the 30amp RV plug (with an EV-specific 30A->50A adapter I'd picked up), and the R1S is currently charging outside.

Day one was pretty great. I've had a big dumb smile on my face all day, and I'm super excited for all of you who still get to have this day in the near future.

Good night!

I still kinda don't believe the delivery date, but more signs that it's real keep piling up. Today my app changed.

Hi Fletch,

First of all - CONGRATS on finally getting the R1S!!!

So small world - my daughter and her boy friend just called me and said they spotted an R1S at Pocono State Park, and yelled out who owns the Rivian, and you were standing next to them near the zip-line, and starting talking all about the R1S. They both loved the color you chose for your R1S!!

She showed you my blue R1T - that I just got end of June, after waiting for 3 years as well.

Enjoy your vacation...and even more...the R1S!!

yeah it’s likely 110. Can’t speak to what OP purchased but I see both RV to 14-50 and standard household plug on Amazon. All of them listed at 120v. I’m skeptical of the ones listed to a standard household plug since those are only rated for 15amp. Seems like asking for trouble

It’s funny that this one R1S delivery to Fletch ended up being picked up by like 5 different outlets like Electrek, InsideEVs, Teslarati, and a few others. Everyone else who got one this weekend was super quiet about it. Not even the Rivian Stories guys made a lot of noise about it and they got two of them. Weird. 🤔

EV chargers can use 120V or 240V circuits. But you are right, RV outlets are 30amps and 120V. I use a TT-30 to a NEMA 14-50 adapter to charge my Tesla at RV plugs. I think the Rivian comes with a 14-50 adapter. This is the product I use https://acworks.com/products/evtt30ms-018-tt-30p-to-tesla-adapter?_pos=8&_sid=8b0ee2bd1&_ss=r . The product says its an EV chord for Tesla's, but I dont see why it wouldnt work with other EV's.

It allows me to charge at about 2.6kw per hour.

It could be that the Rivian stories guys are just trying to enjoy their vehicles a bit in peace and/or want to share a refined, detailed, YT video of their initial reviews.

I wouldn't look too much into this.
