Updated Friday August 26:

Oh man. My post here didn't post! It errored out but I hid the tab and didn't notice before I headed out to the campground. Here's what I typed originally:
A few quick photos but I need to head out. We're late for a camping trip, which is now my first R1S road trip! (Sorry to post and run).
…but since my daughter is in bed now and I have some time, I'll try and make up for leaving everyone hanging by including a couple of bonus photos, and a summary of the day:

Delivery was scheduled for 1:00, but the delivery specialist overestimated traffic and texted at about noon to ask if he could show up at 12:20 instead. And of course he could. So, we kicked off at 12:20. Super friendly, knowledgable guy. He made the trip solo (rather than a driver + specialist that I've seen for some other deliveries).

Standing around the still-loaded flatbed we chatted about Rivian in general, the community, etc. He'd actually seen my post online earlier in the week excitedly announcing that I had a delivery date, and knew that was his delivery to make a few days later.

Once unloaded, we started doing a bit of a walk around. Before we really even got started he told me there were a couple of issues the SC had already flagged, but they decided not to hold up delivery. It's cosmetic stuff, so I appreciated that. We'll get them fixed at some point.

Over the course of the next 2 1/2 hours (yes he really spent that much time with me and my family, which is why I was scrambling to head out for our camping trip -- but it was a good reason to be late) we walked around the vehicle opening each door, talking about different cargo/rear/front features (lift gate, storage, folding/adjusting seats, etc.); and stepped through driver profile setup, and every detail of the physical controls and infotainment. When we got inside he asked up front if I wanted the summary speech or the detailed version, in so many words, and I figured I'd opt for the long form. It was all very well done. Delivery day paperwork was pretty minimal.

Since I'd never driven a Rivian (or any EV) he offered to ride along for a quick first drive (lowercase). We did a loop around some local back roads while he talked about drive modes etc. As I said to a friend:

Having never driven an EV before this afternoon, I’d describe it this way: driving it is like being in a video game that got the physics wrong. The acceleration feels like it shouldn’t be possible (especially in such a big, heavy thing).
I put about 100 miles on it after delivery today (delivered with 11 miles on the odometer), on back roads and highway and everything in between. I think I have a pretty good feel for one-pedal driving already (which I immediately switched from standard to high). Luckily my highway miles were on Driver+ mapped roads, and I let it drive me through stop and go traffic. It worked almost perfectly. The only time it quit on me was when I caught up to a pickup that was stopped in traffic, straddling the line with its right tires fully in my lane. It just quit and told me to take over. I went around him, turned it right back on, and Driver+ continued on its way.

Charging. I stopped at a Walmart to pick up a couple of camping supplies and they had 350kw ElectrifyAmerica chargers, so I plugged in. As I was standing there trying to figure out the process (first time!), it started charging. No payment made. Not knowing if that was normal I tried to figure out how to associate the session with my EA account, but couldn't find a way and gave up. It very quickly ramped up to ~212kw, then, after a few minutes, back down to about 40kw, where it stayed. I left it as we shopped, and somehow the whole session was free. (The final screen showed a total of ~$15, with a discount of an equal amount, for a $0 total). I have no idea why it was free, or what was going on with the ramp up and throttling, but hey, free electrons.

Back at the campsite I plugged into the 30amp RV plug (with an EV-specific 30A->50A adapter I'd picked up), and the R1S is currently charging outside.

Day one was pretty great. I've had a big dumb smile on my face all day, and I'm super excited for all of you who still get to have this day in the near future.

Good night!

I still kinda don't believe the delivery date, but more signs that it's real keep piling up. Today my app changed.

Wow! I think you're the first member here to take delivery of an R1S :)
I have a hard time believing I'll be the first non-employee delivery, but I haven't seen anyone else with a firm date yet, either. I bet there are already customers who've had theirs delivered, and they just aren't active online, but who knows?

I saw on different forums several R1S deliveries yesterday to non-employee related people.

I've seen plenty of spy shots of R1S's parked at service centers, probably for customer deliveries, and some actual deliveries to employees being cheeky about whether they're insiders (like ambosrivians on instagram), but if you've seen confirmed customer deliveries I'd be interested to check them out!

Edit: And to be clear I don't care at all about being first. I'd actually prefer not to be. Seeing that an actual customer has their R1S would be reassuring. If someone has theirs, maybe mine really will be here on Friday!
