It'll get me where I want to go, that's the important thing.

Although, are there any electric vehicle out there with lower MPGe??
I looked at the ID4, I-Pace, 2 Model X, Model Y long range, Etron SUV, XC40 BEV and Bolt and they all have higher MPGe. But none are designed to do what the R1T and R1S are billed for so…

I thought 314 miles was great, until I saw the "10-15% reduction for the 20" all-terrains". That definitely makes me think about my choice to have those on my config.

A few questions/thoughts remain though for me:
  1. How does the "Conserve" drive mode (which shuts off 2 of the 4 motors) affect things?
  2. Do we think 314 is actually an underestimate, similar to Mach-E and Taycan's EPA estimates? Or an overestimate like all of Tesla's EPA estimates? We'll need people to run road trip tests to find out
  3. I'm interested to see if they can improve this over time with software updates. My guess is yes, definitely.
  4. I noticed they said specifically "Launch Edition" in their post. Wonder why? Would non-LE be expected to have different range? I wouldn't think there'd be any difference, but maybe they're thinking they're going to get rated again by the EPA for non-LE models based on any efficiency improvements they're planning.
Regardless, I just want over 300 miles usable real-world so I'm happy I'm going for the Max Pack.

It's the biggest, but that mpge is pretty impressive to me. the Etron sits at 78 MPGe combined. My XC60 T8 gets 59 MPGe on the battery.

Curious that the R1S is slightly less efficient than the R1T (assuming I'm reading the kWh/mi figures correctly). That must mean the battery pack in the R1S is slightly larger than what's in the truck.
The other possibility is that they are still the exact same packs as always but that they needed to open up a little of the headroom on the R1S to make the number. I am not sure why they would do that though.... very curious why the R1S ended up less efficient... I am guessing weight with the added interior "stuff"

One nice thing- this confirms a production configuration is locked in. Start the line!

The 30 mile hit on 20’s kinda hurts.

Also, do we know if this 314 is based on the truck being AWD or are they using the newly discovered 2WD conserve power mode?
You mean 30 to 47 mile hit.

It really hurts.

I'm still getting the 20s, but I'm also getting the Max Pack, so... *sigh*

Hoping that by the time I shred through the first set of tires, somebody has come along with some sort of LRR/ATT hybrid tire that cuts some of that loss down.

And efficiency in rational units:
Combined 51 kWh/100 mi
City 48 kWh/100 mi

I have the same question. It's going to be *really* interesting to find out the details of how they derived EPA, and how that compares to real the "constant 70 mph" highway runs many of us like to compare against. Is this a Taycan/Mach e situation (conservative), an ID.4 situation (pretty spot on), or the classic tesla result.

Too bad there is such a drop with the 20s. But for 95% of our driving, it is perfectly fine. However having a range of 260-280mi (with 20s) and then towing on top of that (they warned up to 50% drop in range)..... That's 130-140mi towing range. Anyone planning to tow may want to stick with Max Packs only!

Based on the city vs. hwy table that @kanundrum just posted, it looks like the R1S does better on the highway, and the R1T does better in the city. And the official EPA numbers are based on 55% city and 45% hwy. So maybe that's the reason?

The eMPG efficiency seems pretty bad in comparison to Tesla. I might be going back to the 21s as many of us are considering.
