Went to pickup my R1S yesterday at Rivian South SF. There must be over 50 R1T and R1S in the lots and the shop, mostly new and to be picked up. The delivery specialist told me that the location wasn't intended to be a delivery site but it turned out to be. Only one bad experience... no coffee in the waiting area. Sam, the delivery specialist told me that RJ said the same two weeks ago when he was there. They are actually expending the area to be more customer friendly.

Saw this beauty today! First one I’ve seen on the road. Whoever this is, congrats on delivery!

R1S Launch Edition
Well friends, it's finally here! My R1S was delivered Friday 9/30, less than three weeks after guide assignment. Things moved very quickly this past week, with the vehicle having arrived at the SC on Tuesday. The same day I got another text from the SC saying that it could be ready for delivery either Thursday or Friday. I picked Friday to give myself some time to tie up financing and insurance.

Delivery day:
Communications were all super prompt - got a text the day before, plus another text day of, plus another one when they left the SC, and another when they arrived (I was already outside watching them pull in at this point :D). The field specialist was friendly and professional, and got us through the hoops pretty quickly. He helped me get set up on the phone, adjusting settings etc., and then offered a drive-along but I declined and sent him on his way!

Positives:
+Love the color.

+Love the ride. You've heard this all before. It's seriously effortless acceleration. I haven't even done a proper launch yet (Seattle peeps, please tell me some good roads to try this on!) but I already know it's way more power than I could ever want.

+I was also pleasantly surprised with the confidence in dimensions I felt. Yes it's big, but it's boxiness left me feeling like I already had a really good handle of where its extremities are.

+Oh, I got a wristband! Apparently those are going out to LE holders now.

+The seats are also super comfy, and everything feels nice and premium inside. Definitely not lap-of-luxury levels, but high all the same. There are virtually no panel gaps, but there are some issues with the plastic trim pieces (see below).

Not so positives:
~I already tracked down some non-critical issues that needed fixing. Some trim pieces misaligned, or not fully set, etc. Also got the ol' wind noise from the triangle window issue. I put in a service request for all of the above and will see how that process goes.

~I also see what people have been saying about the height. It is a little bit of a challenge getting in and out, and 90% of the time I find myself sliding down that bolster, so it looks to be a spot where wear will likely catch up faster than expected. Hoping for an auto height lower on Park or something like that.

~On the software side, the native maps is not confidence-inspiring. I randomly tried to have it map to Palm Springs, CA, and it kept saying I will not have enough battery to make it there and would not route any charging stops. No such issue for SFO, LAX or any other location. Also, I found the navigation prompts volume to be significantly lower than my music, but this is probably an easy fix.

Overall, I am super pleased with the vehicle and can't wait to take it on some real adventures real s00n!

Full wrap PPF with STEK DYNOshield film; selected STEK because of its glossiness, hydrophobic and ceramic bonded. They had my R1S for 10 days and I'm very happy with the outcome (with a couple of minor issues) but they will redo those.

Thanks for the writeup, sevengroove, and congratulations on your R1S! Great photos! That's the color I plan to get - it looks great! How's the Driver+ ?

I love the color as well!

I haven't been using Driver+ as much as I thought I would. I reckon it will come in handy on longer road trips, but I haven't made many of those. I really like the regular adaptive cruise control though. It does an excellent job of making the acceleration and deceleration feel natural.
