Last year, Scottish actor Ewan Mcgregor and his friend Charley Boorman embarked on a journey from Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, to Los Angeles, California, as part of the new docu-series "Long Way Up" which is coming soon to Apple TV+. In this journey, Ewan and Charley took two Harley Davidson Livewires more than 7,000 miles across the Americas, with two Rivian R1T (Tesla's upcoming competitor) as part of the support convoy. Let's check out Obi Wan's new documentary.

Rivian was founded in 2009, and its first truck, the R1T, will go on sale later this year. This truck will be first offered with the top range 180 kWh battery, allowing the R1T to deliver up to 750 hp, 11,200 lbs of towing capacity, 0 to 60 mph under 3 seconds, and over 400 miles of range on a single charge. The R1T will start at $69,000. You can find Rivian's detailed journey through South America on their website.

The Harley Davidson LiveWire is Harley's first electric motorcycle, with a high voltage battery that provides a city range of 146 miles and an 80% charge in 40 minutes or 100% charge in an hour. This motorcycle has a starting price of $29,799.

"Long Way Up" is going to be the third and last part of McGregor's travel documentary. The first one, Long Way Down, consisted of a journey from London, UK, to Cape Town, South Africa. For this trip, McGregor and Boorman picked a BMW R1200GS Adventure motorcycle. The second one, Long Way Round, consisted of a journey through twelve countries, starting in the UK and passing through Europe, Asia, and coming to North America through Alaska, with New York City being the final destination.

Now, the journey for the third and last part of this docuseries will feature the dramatic landscapes of the Americas and the challenge of making long adventure trips on electric vehicles where there are no charging stations. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Ewan said that they had to ask locals several times to use their home electricity to charge the vehicles. There's no official release date for this show, but you should expect it to hit Apple TV+ soon.

I really want to watch this. I look forward to details on the release timing, and whether all the episodes will be available at once or released over time.

I hope they drop all episodes at once. If so, I'll subscribe for a month.

So, a question - I know this is tackled on another thread, but ... here’s a front end shot from South America. How many future R1T owners here are thinking paint protection film for at least bumpers, hood, fenders - even if it costs an extra grand? Curious what everyone thinks?

Maybe on the front, but only on the paint (not plastic). I thought about doing complete PPF, but found it to be cost prohibitive. Previously decided to do a ceramic coating, but might opt for some PPF on the front for potential rock chip issues.

I see an XM radio 'shark fin' antenna and the rear back up camera is in the roof?

Reviving an old thread. Just got around to watching… 3 episodes in. Pretty interesting and features VIN 001 and 002 R1Ts. Super early prototypes — pretty daring of Rivian (and Harley Davidson) to take on the challenge with Ewan McGregor. Looking forward to binging the rest over the weekend. With all the disappointment about delivery delays (myself included), we all need a reminder that Rivian has come a very long way in a relatively short time.

This was one of the main reasons I finally decided to go Rivian. Talk about early adopters. It is great, in the show, to view the Flinstone's-era switchgear and some of the terrain and activities they tackled. If you haven't watched this yet, it's worth a look. The earliest Rivians "In the wild." Very cool.
One minor correction from the above quoted article. Long Way Round was the first in the series (2004) and Long Way Down the second (2007). Long Way Round is fantastic and, given today's climate, provides an alternative look at the Russian people they worked and came in contact with. The river crossing scenes in Siberia are incredibly compelling.
I was checking to see if there was much mentioned here about this project. And this was about it. It's worth a look if you are jonesin' for Rivian content.
