Hi All,

Same here. Picked an R1S from the shop last week that turned out to be a 22. I talked to my guide, but he said I'm "locked in" and if I don't take the car I lose my deposit and reservation in line :(
Unless the Rivian policy has changed radically, you should be able to detach from your Shop selection without penalty. Your delivery may or may not be impacted when you detach and reconfigure, but your deposit and reservation should remain as before. I'd question the response from the guide on this.

That is false. I'm a perfect example of that.

I had it removed and I'm now back in the store. Unfortunately, as said above, I have no idea what place I am in line right now.

Rivian should remove these from the shop and put them either at a discount, or use them as loaners.

I'll take the 2022...but the question they need to answer is: how much will they discount it to pique my interest?

I also picked a launch R1S that ended up with an early 22 VIN and my guide told me they couldn't unmatch me. I'd be cautious using the shop.

So now The Shop is the dumping ground for all the 2022's they finally repaired, etc... and are now ready to sell?

So in 3.5 months when it's actually 2024 will they still be pushing 2022 builds on unsuspecting Shop customers?

I can just imagine the phone conversation between a new Rivian customer in Jan and their insurance broker.. "I just got a brand new Rivian, here's the VIN.. add it to my policy please" .. "Um, my records show that is a 2022 Rivian right?"

To be clear.. I have zero issues with Rivian offering 2022 Shop vehicles... provided they are up-front regarding the vehicle build year to prospective buyers.

This is hogwash. You need to stand up to that and you can even reference them to this thread. Also, before picking a car in the shop, talk to your guide. He told me he can look up the vins and he's actively looking out for builds for me.

If this is true, it has to be a very recent change, and was not my experience only a few months back. The combination of mixing early production builds into Shop offerings and changing to an "all sales are final" policy at the same time will not sit well with either existing or potential Rivian customers. I find it difficult to believe that Rivian has done such a 180 and think that you really should question what your guide is saying.

I picked an R1S Launch edition from the shop in June and then realized it was a very earlier build from January - VIN <200. No one could tell me why it wasn't sold, where it had been for the past 5 months or what was wrong with it, if anything. I got a fair amount of grief from the guide but after several weeks they unmatched me, even after they already shipped it to my local SC and they kept texting me to confirm delivery.
Not knowing the VIN of the vehicles in the shop is a big deal. Why not advertise it before you choose? Some people will accept earlier builds happy to get 12v outlets, Meridien etc, and some people won't. Isn't that more upfront and saves the expense of shipping vehicles to SC's only to be unmatched? Selling last years cars as new is just plain wrong.
I gave up on the shop. Missed my original June/July delivery window and I waited for my regular production turn. I recently got a VIN in the 20k's (2023, PN.....). No guarantees it will be any better than that early Jan build but I'll feel happier.

They should just take all the '22s and add a "launch edition" badge... then put them in the shop, clearly stating 2022 Launch edition. Those who really want an LE can get an early (2022) build. Maybe add a nice little discount (pre-price increase for everyone??)

FWIW- the Guides can see the VIN's of "your" Shop vehicles...
Back in Dec 2022 I was given Shop access and I asked my Guide if there were any 2023 VIN's in "my" Shop offerings, he replied a couple of hours later.. "nope, all 2022 VINs" at that time.

They just can't answer fast enough for anything I want to be checked on. At least he told me he'd keep an eye out...

Based on what I am reading it’s clear that Rivian is getting desperate to dump 2022 vehicles. It’s disturbing to me that Rivian is not being transparent with buyers on what year vehicle they are purchasing.

2022 @ 2018 pricing does not sound too unreasonable if they are forthright about it.
I would not be ok with it if I bought at the higher price though.
