  1. My R1T is going on a 2000 miles trip and need advise on charging

I just got back from a road trip (2000 miles each way) a few days ago, and charging worked out fine, with the exception of a rough patch in eastern Oklahoma. I used RAN, EA, EVGo, Chargepoint, and EV Connect. You should definitely use PlugShare. I use ABRP when I'm towing but I didn't need it...
  2. Max mi/kWh limited to 4… why?!

[My response on a similar thread]: Setting aside whether it was a good decision on Rivian's part, the logic is simple: a) Rivian chose 2 mi/kwh as the center of the y axis. b) 0 mi/kwh is a natural minimum for the y axis since you can't get less than that. c) To preserve linear scaling (not...
  3. Why is 4 mi/kwh the max in the Efficiency screen?

Rolling resistance is based on weight, and increases linearly with speed. Aerodynamic drag is based on drag coefficient and frontal area, and increases as the square of the speed. At highway speeds you're spending a huge chunk of your energy just shoving air out of the way, so the weight matters...
  4. Why is 4 mi/kwh the max in the Efficiency screen?

Setting aside whether it was a good decision on Rivian's part, the logic is simple: a) Rivian chose 2 mi/kwh as the center of the y axis. b) 0 mi/kwh is a natural minimum for the y axis since you can't get less than that. c) To preserve linear scaling (not distort the shape of the curve), the...
  5. Dash vibrating/humming during charge

For cooling the pack, not usually. But sometimes preconditioning will kick in when I don't actually need it. For example, if I set a charging stop 30 minutes away, I don't want the dash to be buzzing for half an hour if it's only going to save me 4-5 minutes at the charger.
  6. Dash vibrating/humming during charge

It's related to charging. I have the same problem sometimes, and in the same situation (in the later part of a fast charging session, usually accompanied by de-rating). For me it will also sometimes make this noise when preconditioning just before starting a DC fast charge. I use the same trick...
  7. Who’s using EVgo and why - unreasonably expensive

In my experience, the higher-rate EVgo units tend to be much more reliable than EA, and moreover their reliability tends to be more stable over time, which is important if I'm using PlugShare to plan ahead, so I don't see a 9.5/10 rated charger and pull into it to find the whole site just...
  8. Electric camping trailer startup……

If you're looking for smaller trailers with good aero that are all-electric or leaning that way, you might check out Polydrops: https://www.polydrops.com/ They've mostly been doing teardrop-style trailers so far but the P21 is standing height. The Pebble and the Lightship are competing with...
  9. RAN Rivian Charging Stations Locations Map via Google Maps

Thanks for the directions! I tried to charge at Santa Nella on my way south on the 19th and unfortunately all of the chargers were down for maintenance. But I did charge yesterday (28th) on my way back and they were all up and running this time. The pull-through spaces are so big! There are...
  10. RAN Rivian Charging Stations Locations Map via Google Maps

This is fantastic news, thank you for the update! I'm heading down that way with a trailer in just a couple of days; it will be really nice to not unhitch.
  11. Poll: How many service center visits did your R1 require in the first year of ownership?

I got the recall done as soon as they announced it, and I don't recall at the time whether mobile service was available in my area yet. Also I'm disqualified from a lot of mobile service calls anway since my driveway is heavily sloped, so I never check. :-) But that's a fair point, I can...
  12. Poll: How many service center visits did your R1 require in the first year of ownership?

[edit: 3] times 1) Fix OTA updates failure, attempted HVAC fix (unsuccessful), attempted suspension fix (unsuccessful), halfshaft squeaks (partial progress), shattered front camera lens (_really_ unlucky rock strike) 2) HVAC fix (successful, they actually listened to me this time), suspension...
  13. Corte Madera RAN open now

I was actually passing through there just a few weeks ago on the way to/from a camping trip in the redwoods. It's well-placed to continue the sequence with the Ukiah and Fortuna chargers headed up the coast, for various outdoorsy trips in that area. Unfortunately it looks like this one doesn't...
  14. Pebble Flow Electric Camper - Competition for Lightship RV

I don't see a problem. Volumetric density isn't a big problem since the trailer has a lot of subfloor to work with (though it might be why the waste tanks are combined, to save some underfloor space). Gravimetric density also isn't super important, since it's a trailer anyway; it will just eat...
  15. Pebble Flow Electric Camper - Competition for Lightship RV

Definitely! I hadn't mentioned it in this list since the Lightship does something very similar: their higher trim level (Long Range) has drive-assisting motors also, though I don't know what the Lightship's regen braking behavior is since they have been vague about it.
  16. Pebble Flow Electric Camper - Competition for Lightship RV

Oh, I forgot an obvious difference: The Pebble is single-axle; the Lightship is double-axle. Single-axle makes the low speed self-navigating feature easier. But it's also weird to see a trailer this long and heavy with only one axle. That seems borderline dangerous.
  17. Pebble Flow Electric Camper - Competition for Lightship RV

It's great to see competition in this space! For the benefit of future readers, some notable differences between the Pebble Flow and the Lightship L1, as far as I've been able to scrape from their ad copy: The big one (which DaveA mentioned above): The Pebble isn't hi-lo, which changes the...
  18. Will this cooktop burner work with Rivian?

Exactly this. It's a pure resistive load, no motors or capacitors or inrush current or anything like that. Turning the dials turns up the watts. As long as you don't turn it too high on both burners, you're good.
  19. Forest Edge Owners - Any Regrets?

I've had Forest Green / Forest Edge for a year now. Absolutely no regrets, love it, totally worth it. I spend a lot of time up in the PNW, and I feel like FG/FE matches very nicely with the Douglas firs. :-)
  20. Current Rivian owners - What’s one change that would make you happier?

I have a long wish list but this is the biggest one: A stronger and quieter AC compressor. The current one runs like a weedwhacker just to produce weak cabin cooling and mediocre battery thermals. It's embarrassing to be running louder than all the nearby ICE cars even when I'm just sitting at a...
