Speculation: R2R Maybe Not the First R2 Model

Given the performance they were talking about, I suspect this is going to be Rivian's Roadster equivalent. But everything we've heard about it was before they got way more private investment than they were originally seeking. Like 8+ billion when targeting 3.5 to get started. I suspect the R2R...

My R1T test drive review from Normal today. It is very good

Edit: one concern I totally blanked on added below before TEST DRIVE Edit edit: Also forgot re-confirm the phenom of everybody who works at Rivian being absolutely jazzed about the brand, happy to the be there and very happy to answer questions. Nice folks. TLDR: It is very good. PRE-TEST...

    More Factory Expansion Plans

https://www.wglt.org/post/proposed-expansion-rivian-agrees-play-nice-neighbors#stream/0 Seems like they're expecting they'll need a lot more capacity in the next couple of years.

Any Chicagoans have an idea of what our sales tax will be?

Is it strictly based on residence and thus we are SCREWED at 9.5%? I thought I read something where they split the difference between residence and where you purchased it somehow.

When is the earliest we'll be on the hook to make a purchase?

June? Would they launch earlier if they could? Or could jumping the gun risk preorder drops?

    LE/Adventure vs. Explorer Cost Comparison

So thought I'd do some comparing. An explorer with everything it currently CAN add that's included in an LE and either wheel upgrade comes out to $71,300. Base LE is 75k. Preference for 21" wheels or going with the adventure package for bigger pack/not-EA would add another $1800 to the value...

So when do they start building for production?

They haven't wavered on a June launch, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't be building before then. I'm thinking once test drives become available they'll be ready to start.

Illinois peeps. Anybody know what's up with custom EV plates?

It's so dumb. They charge us extra for EVs but you can't currently give them more money for customized plates. Anyway, I think I saw there was supposed to be a vote on it but that looked pre-covid.

When do the configurator emails go out?

I'm about to ping them but though I'd ask here first. It would be nice to at least know morning or evening.

Show Prototype Interiors vs Production Interiors

I'm mildly bummed by the differences so far. The interiors looked a lot better on the original prototypes, IMO. Replace the seats if you have to (comfort/safety first) but I wish the wood trim was still on the console and I miss that little shelf it had. The dash still looks great. Probably...

There's some stuff that bugs me about the configurator/LE process

Edit: I may have misread something. I could have sworn it encouraged people to order early because LE was limited, not that it was saying to order during early access because LE was limited. I still want to know some of this other stuff though. Double-edit: The site now suggests you only need...

Ford Family Member Added to Rivian's Board

Delays Just Give Us More Time to Come Up With Amphibious R1T Schemes

I know I'm not the only one whose ears perked up at the first mention that the limit of the R1 series fording capability was set by how high the water gets before the vehicles start to float. Bring your hair-brained schemes to the table! I'm thinking stabilizing pontoons mounted to a crossbar...

So how long before you lose your flashlight?

I'm thinking for me maybe 3... hours? If there's a GPS flashlight tracking option, I might actually invest in that. "Classic Launch Edition R1T WITH THE LEGIT FLASHLIGHT" might actually become something Jay Leno's progeny is looking for one day. Also, how long will this flashlight stay on...

Looking for $10-15k-ish "Until R1T" Holdover Used SUV Advice

I only just pre-ordered the R1T in February so I'm wagering I'm unlikely to see my place in the queue hit before summer 2021 even if Rivian is up and running at full steam 2-3 months from now. Chicago's pickup laws are pretty draconian (EVs don't count) so I'm looking at SUVs or maybe...
