My guess is they'll sell rock rails / sliders as optional accessories, like Jeep does. There's lots of money to be made from accessories and after sales parts.
That's too bad. But I'm sure the company weighed the tax savings against rushing to reach the production plant milestone needed to take advantage of the tax savings.
Of course $657k is no chump change but not much considering Rivian has almost 2 billion in its warchest from investments by...
Thanks for your report :)
I'm really looking forward to having OTA updates for both fixing issues but also upgrades to capabilities.
What's cool about that is as certain models/trims get older, Rivian could choose to simply unlock more features and capabilities via OTA updates and 'refresh'...
Then it looks too much like a Range Rover to me. If you're worried about headroom, videos have shown that there'll be plenty of head clearance - Rivian Short Film: Looking For Powder :like:
Spotted a look at some rack functions and accessories for the Rivian rack system that hasn't been shown before. These were on a design sketch board in the background of a photo from Rivian's design studio.
- bicycle rack attachment
- telescoping rack for attaching kayaks, surfboards, etc.

Rivian already decided on the CCS charging standard so that's not going change at this point and I'm glad they're going with CCS. Tesla will be going it alone with their standard and while that seems the most common right now since they're really the only EV game in town, once all the major...
These aren't sports cars so not having engine sounds won't seem as odd but I agree I think they should give us the option of turning sound if we want - especially the exterior sounds. I'm sure most of us have crossed roads and had a hybrid or EV come up on us without us realizing.
BTW anyone...
In all seriousness, I think a large volume seller midsize sedan would make sense as one of the additional models. As a startup, I'd focus on high volume models first before moving on to really niche models. Which is why I'm surprised it sounds like the third model will be a rally type vehicle...
Right. The 185 kWh / 400+ mile R1S model will be 5 seats because the underfloor space will have a larger battery occupying the space where the 3rd row would fold down into.
Hasn't been announced if the 105kw and 135kw models will have choice of 3rd row delete. If it's optional, I'd like to see...
Rivian has said they will sell directly to customers and also place display galleries/shops around the US. Never seen it mentioned if you'll be able to order right from the galleries/shops though. Might end up being online only.
Yea it was mentioned in the Cool Rivian Facts thread recently too.
I thought it was a pretty genius idea too. I'm thinking it's gotta bother Ford knowing that their trucks are giving marketing exposure to a future competitor (since they've announced an electric F-150 is coming). :giggle:
Genius. That's gotta get under Ford's skin to learn of this especially cuz they just announced plans to develop an electric F150 but Rivian will likely beat them to market with the R1T.
Absolutely. My point is it would have long been bankrupt without the capital it's been able to attract due to the interest and buzz it (Musk) generates. I personally much prefer Rivian's approach of staying low key and letting its products / technology mostly speak for itself. But some buzz and...
Might not be the soundest financial move but projects like this certainly generate buzz, which could turn out to be a sound financial move if it helps them sell the R1T and R1S when they launch. As well as with an eventual stock IPO. One thing's for sure - no way Tesla would have had as much...
Yea this whole direct sales thing is definitely a new experience for me... from placing a deposit online to not having a sales advisor to bug for order updates and my place in the sale queue. Probably a good thing considering how obsessive I get when having a deposit down on a new car
