Introduction and some EV Overlanding trip reports

Thanks! With my Iceland series, I tried adding some narration. Not sure what I will do in the future. Could be just nature videos with music or vlogging style travel videos, or anything in between.

I think if you build a car slightly smaller than the Rivian (size of a Ford Ranger or Landrover Defender), use as much as possible lightweight materials and reduce some not really necessary gimmicks a maximum GVM of 3500kg should be possible even with a large battery pack and sufficient payload...

I'm sure there will be better and lighter alternatives in the future. But probably not in the next 3-4 years. I'm afraid we have to be patient in Europe.

The grass is always greener on the other side. Just a couple of days ago I was thinking how great it must be to live in North America and be able to easily drive up to Alaska or down to South America along the Pan-American highway. :)

This is the final part of my trip report: https://ev-overlanding.com/2022/02/11/audi-e-tron-in-iceland-6-f232-to-maelifell/ And here is the final episode of my video series: We drove along the F232 to Maelifell. It was one of the most beautiful tracks in Iceland. After a quick visit of...

I fear it's not that easy :) , but Canada should also have some really great tracks for your Rivian. And maybe someday there will be a ferry from Halifax to Iceland. Would be great for us too.

Part 5 is now online. We drove from Vik i Myrdal on the South Coast of Iceland to the beautiful Þakgil valley and along the F206 to the Laki fissure. https://ev-overlanding.com/2022/02/04/audi-e-tron-in-iceland-5-thakgil-and-f206-lakagigar/ Here are some impressions:

In Europe the e-tron is seen as a large vehicle, too large my many. In the U.S. probably not. For Iceland a car like the Rivian or F150 would be no problem. There were many Unimogs, modified Sprinter, and even a couple of MAN trucks on these tracks. But if you want to explore for example the old...

I have just finished part 4 of my Iceland trip report: https://ev-overlanding.com/2022/01/24/audi-e-tron-in-iceland-4-kaldidalur-and-f578/

But then they will compete with other options on the market. For me, the USP of the Rivian is its 180 kWh battery pack (in addition to its 1m wading depth which really helps in Iceland).

I'm 100% sure this won't happen. Even if they are willing to change the rules (which they are not at the moment), it would typically take about 10 years. Any manufacturer just hoping that the EU will just change the rules, will lose this market. It's the same in the U.S. with their different...

3800kg would definitely mean the Rivian would be in a different class, requiring a different driving license. And even worse you then have a 800 HP car which can only drive 80 km/h on road without a speed limit. I would use the Rivian only as a second car for offroading and long distance...

Thanks a lot! I could really need a couple more subscribers. Editing a single 6 minutes video takes me more than 20 hours. If nobody watches them it's a bit frustrating.

Definitely mid size, the most common one is the Ford Ranger, probably followed by the VW Amarok (now out of production). You nearly never see full size trucks in Europe. And even mid size trucks are a rare occurence. But SUVs, even large ones, are extremely popular.

Thanks! I think from the European perspective the R1S is probably the more useful/common vehicle compared to the R1T. Pickups are rare here. One problem in Europe could be, that the maximum vehicle weight of a standard passenger car is limited to 3500 kg. If you go above this limit, the vehicle...

I'm waiting for the Rivian to be available in Europe. I'm not sure if I prefer the R1S or the R1T but I would definitely get the max battery pack. My guess is that I won't be able to buy a Rivian with max battery before end of 2023 in Germany. Until then I use an Audi e-tron for my EV...
