  1. R2 highway range test with 20" inch A/T tires (Tom from State of Charge)

LLMs are naturally bad at math, even though some have some bolt-on software to make their math abilities less bad. It certainly isn’t going to do computational fluid dynamics to answer your question! What what a tool like ChatGPT or Gemini is going to do is search up a forum thread like this...
  2. Rivian Care coverage expands to 31 states

I requested the comprehensive inspection and a quote for the Rivian Care extended warranty through the service button in the app. The AI chatbot connected me to a human chat-person, and then the person told me through the chat that my vehicle wasn’t eligible for a Rivian Care extended warranty...
  3. Rivian Care coverage expands to 31 states

That’s what Rivian told me last week, even though my used R1S is under the factory warranty and was purchased used directly from Rivian (RPO). Me: ā€œI’d like to pay y’all $6k for my car’s extended warranty that we both hope I don’t have to use.ā€ Rivian: ā€œNo.ā€ (Paraphrased from polite...
  4. Cancelling my Pre-order, thoughts inside from test drive

Tesla doesn’t have dealers. I’ll try out FSD again when the fanboys stop trashing the previous release and say ā€œFSD Version N is a sensible evolution of Version N-1ā€. After four years of you people giving me exactly the same speech you just gave me — only to be underwhelmed, then disappointed...
  5. Cancelling my Pre-order, thoughts inside from test drive

That’s what the Tesla fanboys say every year, though, for every major release of FSD since v10. I’ve had this conversation every year for four years. I’m out.
  6. Cancelling my Pre-order, thoughts inside from test drive

I had some pretty bad experiences with FSD. The only thing that was unbelievable about it was that such poor software was released to the public.
  7. Poll: How often do you use your frunk?

We keep our stroller and our charging adapters in the trunk, so we use it pretty regularly. I’ll use it some other way once kid #4 doesn’t need a stroller.
  8. Nashville R2 Block Party pics: Launch Green, Crystal Cove, Midnight Black

I don’t think this is strange at all. Remember that all of these vehicles have ownership attached to them. They’re worth tens of thousands of dollars. It makes sense for the marketing folks to ā€œownā€ a few prototypes for marketing purposes. Prototypes are rarely perfect, which is why they...
  9. R1S / R1T Outdoor Car Cover now in Rivian Gear Shop (May 2026)

I put a cover on our daily driver when an ice storm was forecast for a couple of years. It was a $50 problem, though, not a $500 problem.
  10. Power usage of autonomy

After my experiences either FSD in my Model Y, I’m anti-sold on autonomy as a concept. I’ll follow what Rivian is doing, their more thoughtful approach is better than Tesla’s approach. But I’m not counting any of these chickens before they hatch. There’s no reason to think there won’t be...
  11. R2 LIDAR Availability

We bought a used 1st-Gen R1S without the expectation of self-driving capabilities. Why? We previously had a Tesla Model Y, and our experiences with Tesla’s ā€œFull Self Driving (supervised)ā€ system was not good. We ended up fighting with Autopilot a lot, and we found FSD to be dangerously...
  12. While other blur, we make it CLEAR!

Yes. All you have to do to activate the factory dashcam is to plug in a USB-C storage device and push a couple of buttons on the screen. It’s pretty similar to Tesla’s built-in dashcam. It also includes ā€œGear Guardā€, which is analogous to Tesla’s ā€œSentry Mode.ā€ The value-proposition of your...
  13. Has anyone Towed a trailer, boat, camper with their new R1T?

I see a 50% range-loss (MPG loss) when towing my travel trailer with my hybrid-powered ICE truck. I don't see why the losses would be any lower on an EV, because the trailer takes the same amount of ∫drag/dt to move. My travel trailer has the aerodynamics of a garden shed. A more efficient...
  14. (UPDATED) My review: I got behind the wheel of R1T and here are the details if you are interested!

I didn't perceive them as rude. My read was that the plan for the event put them in a bit of a bind, which lead to some mutual frustration. But, overall, things went pretty well and they got this truck in front of the public. Hopefully they'll adjust their plan for future events, when possible.
  15. (UPDATED) My review: I got behind the wheel of R1T and here are the details if you are interested!

There was no standby list at the event in Normal on Sunday. The rides were for reservation holders only. The unfortunate folks manning the ride-booth had to answer this question every couple of minutes. People who feel like they can afford $67k-$80k vehicle didn't like being told they weren't...
