Perhaps my experience is limited to well designed auto HVAC systems, but very limited fiddling is required in Auto. If the car temperature is well above or below the set point (temp.), it will already do 100% of what it can to reach it...adjusting the temp. up or down several degrees won't speed...
Same. I would hate manual controls. In most cars I set my preferred vent position & temperature, then leave it alone 95% of time.
I'm surprised there are people out there fiddling with their car HVAC a dozen times a day.
I've got a feeling LIDAR/RAP1 will have minimal impact on resale.
Everyone on this forum is hyper aware of the LIDAR/RAP1 situation but probably 90% of prospective buyers could care less. Average car buyers are not asking questions like "how many TOPS does it have? What's the memory bandwidth...
This makes sense. BUT In alternative universe, where LIDAR/RAP1 were not right around the corner, I could still see Rivian offering the exact same LE perks.
Considering this is such a make or break car for Rivian, they are trying to pull in as many people as possible, the vast majority of which...
It's a brief segment, starts at 46:25 mark.
When asked whether it was the wheel or tire that causes the 20" option to have less range, the engineer says "it's both but its primarily the tire, tire is the much bigger driver. The Cd [coefficient of drag I assume] for the wheels is slightly worse...
Probably.
But what if they wait to announce it until just prior to the transition. Imagine an early November announcement saying: "All production models starting December 1st will be equipped with LIDAR/RAP1. Customers placing orders for any R2 variant after November 30th will receive...
If I were the Rivian CEO, here would be my inner ramblings:
---------------------------------
"The R2 is a make it or break it product for my company. We are either about to go mainstream, or this is the beginning of the end for Rivian.
We barely made the launch window for the R2. We had some...
The Michelin Defenders are all season tires. They will almost certainly be more efficient than the all terrain tires that come with the OEM 20" wheels, but probably not as much as the 21" OEM tires.
If overall cost is a concern, range is only part of the equation. Consider a $450 tire that...
The glass roof definitely let's heat in, but it was not any more than I expected.
Halfway through our drive I touched the glass, and it was definitely "hot" but not so hot you couldn't hold your hand on it for a few seconds. The hair on top of my head was also a little warmer to the touch, but...
Thanks for the info! Definitely some cool functionality that my ICE car doesn't have, so excited for that.
But I think I will definitely still the miss pure simplicity of starting the car from the key hanging from my belt loop.
Btw, I had a second test drive this weekend. Temps were are...
Going with 20" AT. Prefer the wheel design, thicker tire sidewall, and more replacement options at a cheaper price. Will either replace the AT right away with all-seasons or wait till they wear out if noise/range is acceptable.
As a non-EV owner, I have a question about remote starting/climate functions.
One of my favorite things about our current ICE car is the remote start - either from key or the app. I greatly prefer using the key, as it is 10x faster than loading up an app (and free). From the key, I just press...
You have some great points. Life is short...a lot shorter than some of us are vigorously planning for. Nothing wrong with living a little and treating yourself with something that will make you happy for years to come.
But I try to make sure there is a balance. I don't know the details of your...
Just got a quote from Progressive. For 100k/200k/100k, Collision ($750 deductible) and other than collision ($750 deductible), an R2 would increase my rate by $165.04 a year. Would bring my yearly total for four vehicles to $1610.00 per year. I do bundle home insurance, so I assume that helps.
Yeah not NOVA. I've always known I have it good, but dang. With two vehicles at that USAA rate, you'd pay over $100,000 in car insurance over eight years 🤯. Even at $300/month/car, that's $57,000 over 8 years for two vehicles.
$530 a month!? For one car!? $6,360 a year!?
Goodness. I'm in VA and pay about $115 a month ($1,400 a year) for three vehicles (two of which are admittedly not worth anything, but the 3rd is worth roughly $15,000). With Progressive, no accidents, two drivers (me and wife).
*Edit: updated some...
The online configurator for the EX60 is far more detailed and in depth than Rivian's, which is great but it can be hard to sift through the information. Some features are locked into the Ultra trim (laminated windows, headlight cleaners, B&W sound system) so I didn't really consider them as the...
Probably right.
But some posters have order windows as late as February 2027, and they are still promised a Launch Edition. So if the production line switches to RAP1/LIDAR at the end of 2026 as was previously announced, it seems possible that Launch Editions afterwards will have the new...
