I tow an Airstream Basecamp (4,500lbs) and have averaged 1.4 over the last 10,000 miles. However, I donât drive fast. I love places with 55 mph speed limits as it makes me feel less guilty doing 55-60. That said, in the overall scheme of things, does an extra 30-60 minutes on your trip really...
If memory serves correctl, I think it still says the same thing when the trailer is plugged in. The Nav system is fairly accurate though. I drive for around 2 hours or so before charging which suits me well as both the dogs and I have to pee.
I have an Airstream Basecamp X. I drive a Gen 1 Quad with the large pack. My travels have been in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana. Elevation from 5â to 8,883â. I usually drive between 55 and 60.
Here are the results.
I have 45k on my 21â OEM tires. I will be replacing soon with the Michelins. At least 10k of those miles was towing an Airstream trailer. I live near a freeway so most of my driving is at freeway speeds.
Thank you for a great post about your experience. I have a Gen 1 quad and I used to tow a 27â Airstream and got almost exactly the miles/ kwhr that you are getting. In January I downsized to a 20â Airstream Basecamp. With that I am getting about 1.4 miles/kwhr.
Like you I take it easy and enjoy...
The Rivian reports the trailer weighs about 4,000 lbs. at least that is what it thinks. Sometimes a bit less, usually not more. The amount of water in the tanks makes a difference.
I think it is a carryover from the 27â Airstream which was about 8,000 lbs. I just found that everything was more stable on the road when set to firm. The car didnât bounce around as much. I wonder if others have the same experience.
One of the most interesting and unexpected things about this setup is the amount of positive attention it gets. Almost every time I stopped someone said something positive about the ârigâ. I hadnât happened to me like this before. Even some homeless bloke ooohâed and aahhâed about it so much I...
You are supposed to limit it manually to 24 amps, which I did. Still charged up to 100% overnight, remembering I always got to the campground early and left by 10:00 am.
Because the Basecamp 20â had two eating areas I leave the bed made up. Amazingly it is actually quite comfortable. (I like a firm bed) but you can actually buy âtoppersâ for it if you want something softer.
Just spent three weeks and around 2,000 miles wandering down the Oregon coast and back up through the middle of Oregon from the Seattle area. I was towing an 20â Airstream Basecamp. I had recently traded my 27â Airstream in for the Basecamp. Now that my wife has passed I found the bigger...
While it is true that the Rivian has 120 volt ports, unfortunately they are rather underpowered for some applications. I was planning to use the BLUETTI system to power my RV (I has 30 amp output) and charge the BLUETTI battery with the Rivian 120 volt outlet. Unfortunately that didnât work as...
The Rivian dashboard says the trailer is about 8000 lbs. it reports the average consumption when pulling the trailer (about 3,000 miles so far) is 1.16
Fairly hilly around here in the Pacific Northwest so that affects it. I try to ensure I stay between 55 and 60 on the freeway.
it helps that I...
