    Toyota EPU EV Truck Concept

Toyota fought tooth and nail against EV development since the EV-1 days (1990's). Their CEO said EVs are not a workable solution. In fact, he quit because Toyota wants to proceed with EV development. "To advance change at Toyota, I have reached the decision that it is best for me to support a...

What exactly does Conserve mode do? If it extends the range, by how much? Any downsides?

Front Tire Wear at 15k miles - Here is a picture of 90% Conserve, and 10% in Sport ALL OFF (<1% other). Autocross and 4-wheel drifting exhibitions chunked the outside blocks. 3 out of 4 wear bars are equal, since the other is < .030" lower, it could allowable mfr'g tolerance. The stipes on the...

    Poor efficiency on R1S?

I've been driving EVs for >90% of my miles since 2012, and have bought 7 of them so far for both home and work. I can exceed the EPA on most EVs made. You are fortunate that you bought an EV that can easily reach EPA range. This is my 0.02c's, if someone disagrees that is OK, I'm not an expert...

Rivian R1T Launch Edition Real World Range Review:

Look at the depth of the wear bars across the pattern. Notice how the "inside" which normally wears quicker on many ICE trucks is actually normal. Cars with variable ride height often wear out the inside corners in the rear when set to the lowest setting due to camber increase. That did not...

Rivian R1T Launch Edition Real World Range Review:

Yes, I always drive in Conserve unless there is a reason to operate in AWD. There is no reason to run Standard Height on highways. There is ample ground clearance for speed bumps at Lowest. My tires at Lowest wear evenly across their profile (see pic, all 4 wear that way). Not true for our...

Rivian R1T Launch Edition Real World Range Review:

This pic is informational since it included a couple of hours in Salt Lake City of going to attractions, visiting, restaurants while in the Salt Lake City area. This is "curb-to-curb" round trip data from Norco, CA to SLC to Norco, CA.

Rivian R1T Launch Edition Real World Range Review:

Rivian Adventure Charger data: Last charge session (the picture) was 232 miles added in 37 minutes, with 96 kWh added using a Rivian Adventure charger.

Rivian R1T Launch Edition Real World Range Review:

I've demo'd our R1T to dozens of people all over the Western US. The most common question I get is "real world range". I will define RWR as ~85% charge when leaving, and ~10% charge on arrival. This is my normal cruising settings. 10% on the R1T is 35 miles left. 85% is 300 miles on the 'fuel...

    Mitigating Limitations of Regenerative Braking?

For those in SoCal, you can see this happen regularly on the way down from Big Bear. My I-Pace didn't do it, nor does my Model X. It doesn't matter if you are 2wd (Conserve) or 4wd Sport, All-Purpose, Snow. I charge to 85% for the trips (round trip consumption 50-55% SOC). I'm thinking if we...

Racing is organized competition with scoring. Test n tune and informal autox are not racing.

Anyone Cross-Shopping the Audi e-Tron SUV?

I did not notice a better ride quality between the R1T and eTron. This assumes you've set the R1T to All-Purpose, Normal, Soft. The only serious place to test ride quality is RR crossings, potholes, unimproved roads, etc. It is too easy to mistake sound for vibration on smooth pavement. The...

We need 277 volt AC compatible charging. Really.

Imagine just the theft potential, maintenance, and power losses of installing hundreds of thousands of stepdown 277>240 transformers if you want inexpensive infrastructure expansion. I charge my Tesla at 277 at work, and when I get the Rivian I will test it to see if will handle 277. IIRC, the...

We need 277 volt AC compatible charging. Really.

I think I have more EV's in my garage than in all of Canada... JK. I do not believe most commercial lighting fixtures in Canada are 347. Show me your reference. The point is, most Rivians, Teslas, Ford EVs, GM EVs, are built for the American market. Our entire country has mostly 277/480...

It Is happening!!!! My R1T delivery in 4-6 weeks!

For what it is worth, I've seen a privately owned (non-MFR plate) R1T twice on the road to Big Bear, CA this month. Could be the same Forest Green, or could be two different ones. So they certainly shipping. I have it on video both times.

Rivian R1T charging curve test 20-80% [by TFL]

The Tesla 100 kWh pack in the 2020 MX Long Range Plus takes the same amount of time to go from 20-80% SOC (40 minutes). While peak can hit up to 198 kW, it has little effect on charging time. At 80% it is also crawling in the 50's%. Then if you hit an "urban" charging, it takes about 55...

Out of Spec's First Drive Review of Rivian R1T @ First Mile Event

At 120mph lift on the Jaguar and it feels like you dropped the chute. Over 200 kW, maybe 240kW according to interpolation. Even the lightweight GM Bolt puts down >70kW on high which is higher than my MX.

Out of Spec's First Drive Review of Rivian R1T @ First Mile Event

Certainly a view from a Tesla Owner (I'm a Tesla owner, but also an auto enthusiast / mechanic / race driver). He is stunned at the amenities in the R1T - this means he's used to Teslas, not normal 2021 luxury vehicles. That level of detail is normal for today's pickups. And the pricing is...

Motortrend tests R1T with 21" wheels -- "Quickest truck we've ever tested."

Last time I priced 911 Turbo S, it was $200k before options. Compare the R1T to the Macan. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S runs 10.5@130, and seats 4 in comfort and costs less than the 911.
