  1. Been using my R1T since Oct ‘22 as primary work truck in Landscaping business

When referencing construction materials, a "sheet" is generally understood to mean some kind of a "panel" that is 4 feet wide and 8 feet long. The other dimension given is the nominal thickness (in this case, it's 5/8"). This was used as sheathing beneath Hardy Board siding on an outbuilding.
  2. Burnt 240V outlet

NGKB is correct about 40 amps (it's 80% of 50 amps). A charger is considered a continuous load and calls for the 80% rule (it's in the NEC). 42 won't fly within the code
  3. Burnt 240V outlet

Don't be too quick to blame the electrician. Repeated heating and cooling causes expansion and contraction of the wire and the terminals. Over time, this WILL lead to loosening of the connection...particularly where aluminum wire is involved. The general rule of thumb when tightening a...
  4. Show off your Level 2 Home Charger installs here

Just saw this (OLD) post. PSA - REMOVE THE HANDLE AND KNOT FROM THE DOOR RELEASE MECHANISM AND CUT THE ROPE SHORT ENOUGH THAT IT WON'T REACH THE EDGE OF THE DOOR Why?? Because all that it takes to get in your garage is a heavy wire (think coat hanger) snaked through the gasket at the top of...
  5. How do I take my phone out of the Rivian while leaving passengers inside?

First World Problems for sure. I have the opposite problem. My wife has a Lexus NX350 hybrid. You carry around a fob. Push start button, car comes alive. Muscle memory causes me to push up on the windshield wiper stalk in order to back out of garage...wife barks at me for messing up windshield...
  6. Good neighbors watch each other's backs (and Rivians)

I had a credible report of tennis ball sized hail approaching. My Crew Cab F-250 wouldn't fit in the garage. I pulled it under a large oak tree in the driving rain, placed a few large pieces of cardboard (like from a refrigerator) on top of the truck and on the hood, let that "melt" in the rain...
  7. Let's talk Tesla Supercharger parking etiquette...

All this potential for rage. I'm thinking walking away from the Rivian while charging at a Tesla facility might be a bad idea. Even with PAAK, most people carry keys. I don't want to be the recipient of that CS action. I refuse to park in the charging space at my orthopedist's office because it...
  8. I hate when I pull up to this...

Seems like a box of black plastic garbage bags and a package of zip ties should be a part of the arsenal of any "road warrior". It would get the point across. If it wouldn't fit over the stanchion, you could bag all or part of the charging cable and plug.
  9. Introducing Our New Wheel Hub Covers for Rivian R1S and R1T - Seeking Your Interest!

If you're gonna do this...get the CORRECT shade of yellow. This one is "off" from the rotors.
  10. I hate when I pull up to this...

Here's an idea... Many chargers have the ability to assess "idle fees" A simple interface that detects the weight of the cord and the replacement of the charger into the receptacle on the stanchion is required to STOP the timer on the idle fees. A flashing warning light on the screen when in...
  11. Front Trunk Hooks by TWRAPS

I bought these last year with an idea toward pop riveting them into the tub wall. Not wanting to drill blindly into who-knows-what-? and thinking they would likely need a backup washer on the back side to keep from pulling out, I had delayed pulling out the frunk tub to install them. I'm...
  12. stinger de-rattle device?

FYI - The originals don't require anything that most people would consider to be "tools". Any coin in your pocket short of a 50 cent piece or a silver dollar will do, but a quarter works best (followed by a nickel) [Edit necessitated by the overly defensive guy who wrote the next post]
  13. What happened to "mute" on driving directions?

Hang on to that wife. You didn't mention "constant monitoring and comments on speed". If that omission was not simply an oversight, you have a prize worth keeping.
  14. Wanted: Gate Mode

Anyone who has a "manor" or "estate" that doesn't have either a gatekeeper or (at least) an electric gate operator is a prole boujee wannabee anyway. :)
  15. Minimalist Trailers

This looks like it might have promise (if these guys ever resume production). Based on the price of their dirt bike stacker, it's likely going to be pricey. Does anyone know of other similar stuff? https://www.bear-bones.com/
  16. A moment to appreciate... the Frunk

True story...I went to my favorite liquor store the other day...they have really good prices that are even better when you buy by the case. My wife & I are boringly predictable, so we buy a case at a time (of her Enchanted Rock Vodka & my Maker's Mark) which last a good while. I got out (parked...
  17. Preconditioning - Paying Twice?

Is it actually "heating" the two motors or is it simply not cooling the two motors to allow the heat to build up so that it can be dumped into the battery? Motors generate heat when running. That's a given. What happens to that heat is a different story.
  18. Future updates I'd like to see

If you're plugged in (and charging is not set for some specific time), then essentially all the power that's being used is coming from the grid. Granted, it is depleting battery, but as soon as it does (by as little as 1%), the charger kicks back on to restore it. You can set the desired cabin...
  19. Super Heavy Duty Hitch Step / Bumper Protector with Photos

If any of y'all are thinking this isn't "enough" or doesn't provide a big enough target...You could always augment it with a length of railroad track (nicely beveled on the ends, of course). Around here, railroad track goes for$25/foot. It weighs 25# per foot.
