Rivian chooses Samsung for its first-gen battery supplier

I'm probably pretty biased as I've had a string of bad luck with their devices/appliances being completely unreliable (phones/washing machine/fridge). I'm hoping I'm wrong, but it also seems like they were "last kid picked" and only one available (Tesla has Panasonic, GM has LG).

Rivian chooses Samsung for its first-gen battery supplier

Does this announcement make anyone else worried about the durability of these batteries? Wondering if Rivian was forced into this arrangement out of sheer necessity.

SF Bay Area Rivian Adventure Owners?

I’m in Sac and have the LE R1S in Forest Green. May end up downgrading to Explore though. I’ll likely be using it for trips to Tahoe and some off-road trails for backpacking.

20” All-Terrain or 22” Sport wheel upgrade included - Which is better 20 or 22

Why... why couldn’t they just make things easier by having the standard all season tire be 20”???

    $7,500 Difference in Trims

Auto tonneau cover as well. I understand the price difference a little bit more in the R1T than the R1S, but still think it's a bit much.. especially when you consider roof options and other extras we don't know about yet. I have a deposit on the SUV and likely won't pay for the Adventure package.

    Are you excited or dissapointed?

Does anyone know if the Amazon van is of the 135 kWh variant? If that’s the case, they may have chosen to start with the 135 to simplify manufacturing. Launching three vehicles simultaneously comes with challenges, limiting to one battery size out of the gate would help simplify things.

2 Predictions - R1S Second Row, and Configurator Sneak Peek

Would be a nice surprise, but feels like wishful thinking. The R1S could use some ingenuity like this though

Seems like Lidar is out of the picture as well. They specifically reference 10 cameras, ultrasound, and radar.

Rivian Launches New Website: Updated Prices, Launch Edition, Timing, Colors and More!

So the starting price for 135kWh version of the R1T/R1S is $67500/$70000 respectively. 180kWh versions for R1T/R1S are Jan2022 and TBD. However, it looks like they will have a 7 seat version of the 180kWh SUV. " After launch, we’ll announce the timing of our 250+ mile and longer range R1S, also...

Daily Drive interview with RJ discussing Q2 launch, insurance program, test drives, service centers

I thought I heard him say it would be a consumer variant of the Amazon van. Which checks out with Rivian trademarking R1V and R2X. Figured a van was right around the corner.
