    Rivian's first CTO leaves company

Could be any number of reasons behind this. Top talent is always in high demand. Tesla also has/does experience high turnover, supposedly because Musk pushes his people so hard. No doubt there is quite a bit of pressure within Rivian at this stage of the game - there was a clip in their latest...

Good Forbes Article on Rivian - production number estimates and vehicle servicing mentioned

The thing about Bollinger is that they aren't building a light duty passenger vehicle. They are building a class 3 truck without air bags and without performing crash testing. Not something I would ever plan to take a family road trip in. It has its market but it's not the same as Rivian.

What would you like to see on your new Rivian or from the Rivian company??

Anyone besides me think the lighter/natural wood trim from the Lunar Rock interior would look amazing in the Black Mountain interior? The dark stain of the wood trim in the Black Mountain interior makes everything very monochrome. I think the contrast of the light wood trim against the darker...

@CappyJax, @ajdelange Can we just call this round a draw and move on? This is the second thread you guys have managed to drag into the weeds.

Tesla's Hardware 3 computer frightens legacy auto

To tie this directly to Rivian... I am hopeful that since Rivian is starting from scratch and developing all new vendor relations that they, like Tesla, will be able to accomplish things the legacy manufacturers have been unable to (or perhaps just unwilling). But on the flip side, Rivian is not...

Rivian Eventual L3 and Data Gathering

I strongly agree with this statement, as do others: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/24/senator-asks-tesla-to-re-brand-its-autopilot-feature-because-it-can-confuse-drivers.html If we can at least get people to understand and respect the limitations of their L2 and L3 vehicles, we'll all stand a...

Rivian Eventual L3 and Data Gathering

According to this guy, Rivian told him at FCL that they will ship with L2 and collect driver data for at least a year before attempting L3.

Another Truck Concept - Nikola Badger

First, there is no ICE. The hydrogen powers a fuel cell which leverages a chemical reaction to generate electricity which powers the electric motors. Carrying a tank of hydrogen is no riskier than a tank of gasoline for an ICE vehicle, the natural gas cylinder powering the grill on your patio...

Rivian customers share thoughts about preordering a vehicle

Pre-orders don't drive economies of scale, manufacturing at scale does. In the past Rivian had stated a first year production rate of 20-40k vehicles. These days they seem to be indicating closer to 20k. I think if they had 100k pre-orders they would be doing everything possible to deliver 40k...

Rivian customers share thoughts about preordering a vehicle

For some perspective, the Range Rover Sport sold almost 26k units in the US in 2019. Land Rover as a whole sold almost 95k units in the US.

Rivian Eventual L3 and Data Gathering

It will be interesting to see if this strategy starts to change. From a consumer perspective, it's not quite such a big deal to spend $500 every year to get the latest smart phone tech (yeah, right, remember back when smart phones were only $500...). When you're talking about $50k-$100k vehicles...

Good Forbes Article on Rivian - production number estimates and vehicle servicing mentioned

Times are changing, albeit slowly.... Thank you Tesla. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a30615855/tesla-sell-cars-michigan/ Until TX abandons it protectionist measures for a waning business model and fully acknowledges the Internet Age, I am more than happy to take delivery of my Rivian in...

Good Forbes Article on Rivian - production number estimates and vehicle servicing mentioned

Correct. Scaringe declined to say how many prospective buyers have so far spent $1,000 on a refundable deposit to hold their spot for a Rivian, but he said the reaction had been “really positive”. “So we’re excited by that. But we now have the challenge of a lot of pre-order customers aren’t...

Any details on the Door handles.

I think I've heard mention of an additional gasket but not a wholesale redesign. This is the same type of handle found on Tesla's Model 3 which operates far more fluidly than you might imagine if you've never used one. What I am most concerned about is how Rivian will handle icing scenarios (not...

    Roll Call

Here's an interesting if somewhat useless factoid I ran across on Reddit: a FCL attendee reported being told by Rivian that there were more pre-orders from Dallas than Austin (as of that time).

So far I have only heard Rivian speak of white glove service. They will come to you and repair at your location if possible. If not, they provide a loaner and take your vehicle somewhere else but I'm not sure there will actually be Rivian branded service centers any time soon. Still lots of...
