FWIW. I think this tells a much bigger story. First, the box is expensive. The shipping cost on the oversized box is higher. The handling cost is higher. It is the wrong tool for the job on every dimension. But clearly some shipping employee said, "whatever" and sent it this way. No process was...
No email for me. I guess this is Rivian's way of saying that despite my BPA there is no way, no how that I am getting an R1S this calendar year, so no tax credit for me. 😭
Do not know the target audience but we are all-in on the Compass Yellow, and not "young" (well, we are young by Joe Biden standards, old by RJ standards). So tired of all the boring gray/black/white/silvers. So the wheels on the bus go round and round (very, extremely fast).
Correct. That is what I am saying. The Model Y LRAWD costs ~$38-$40k to make. The CT needs to come in at ~ $35k - $38k to get priced at $49k and retain target margins. The 130kwh battery in the CT should cost around 25% more than Model Y or around $12k - $13k vs $10k for the current NMC Y pack...
Work truck for people who do not use bobcats LOL.
It is for the "utility" truck market. It will appeal to a very broad range of actual uses (aside, it will be the killer police cruiser) and it will appeal to people who want a lot of capability and not a lot of frills.
Time will tell, but I would so like to take bets on this. I could be completely off base but that is my bet. $49k for the Dual Motor 330 mile vehicle, $69 k for the Quad 500 mile. We shall see...
Why do some people immediately revert to childish name-calling when discussing Tesla? Elmo? Really?
Yes, I think the 2019 pricing will hold. If you watched the investor presentation, you would have heard in great detail the progress they have made in lowering costs (model 3 is 30% cheaper than...
Hopefully people can now see (1) why the Rivian costs $40k more than a similar range CT and $20k more than a much higher range/specs CT and (2) why this was never intended to, and never will, compete with Rivian. It is a completely different approach for a completely different market segment.
I say if you are getting a Rivian get a unique Rivian color. We are all-in for compass yellow, but if that was out I would go RIvian Blue. Third choice would be Forest Green and followed by Canyon Red. Personally, I am sooooo tired of the gray-white-black-silver ultra-conservative colors...
There are a LOT of people who buy expensive pickup trucks and cannot afford to buy a house. I am assuming you get a lot of laughs driving around F150 and Silverado country?
The Cybertruck is not a truck for people who want soft, plush, pretty leather-wrapped cocoon with sleeper seats. CT is for people who want a tough-as-s#1t, extremely capable truck.
I know it is not pretty enough for the kids at auto evolution, but they really were never the intended audience...
May be correct for R1Ts but we have not seen same for R1S. We live less than 15 miles from service center and have been pushed back a year. I understand from Rivian CS folks that demand for the T is well down vs S so that is probably why.
@BillyBob We are in exactly the same situation with the R1S. Reserved in Oct 2021, then 4Q 2022 then 1H 2023 and now suddenly bumped to 1H 2024.
Rivian's approach to bumping the new, higher-priced, customers is understandable but super frustrating. If they told us we could accelerate for a $5k...
