“Rivian has added more than 2,000 jobs in the last year as it ramps up production. The plant in Normal has more than 7,400 workers, according to spokesperson Zach Dietmeier, making it the second largest employer in McLean County behind State Farm.”
Rivian has made us wait years for the max pack R1T, moving us from the front of the line (initial info from Rivian was the max pack would be the first truck config produced), to last in line behind preorder holders, and now we are last in line behind brand-new orders.
What if part of the delay...
Even with 20" ATs, people are getting close to 350 miles on their R1Ts. So the range difference between a "~400 mile" max pack and a 350 mile large pack is around 50, not 70+.
We will be (s00n) 100% EVs if the max pack ever shows up. It's cold here in the winter, and we need to drive long distances regularly (1,000 miles one-way) to see some dang good-lookin' grandkids. (Maybe 9 or 10 trips a year.) We also have a small camper that we tow sometimes.
If the max pack...
Well, technically R1T max pack preorder holders are the same. Crappy dual motor only, but both R1T and R1S dual motor max packs are supposed to start deliveries in fall 2023. (Key highlights on one of the first pages of the 4Q2022 shareholder update: "~400-mile R1S/R1T max pack launching 2H...
My first forced purchase happened right at Thanksgiving 2021, when an uninsured 19-year-old forced our SUV off the interstate at high speed. The SUV was totaled. We needed a tow vehicle, and our other little EV car can't tow a trailer. Does that meet your definition of "forced?" It met mine.
My...
This is my fear. How many of us have already been forced into one sub-optimal vehicle purchase as we wait? I’m about to experience my second sub-optimal purchase, if this truck doesn’t appear soon.
Edit to correct auto-correct.
Exactly. If the configurator were the actual roadblock, they could just write the names and configs of the remaining five Max pack preorder holders on post-it notes, and tack them on a wall outside RJ’s office. There can’t be that many of us left that would prevent manual handling.
At this point, I think a single production run will fulfill the holdout Max Pack preorder holders. (And that’s probably the whole problem--not enough demand now.)
We will be all-electric if our max pack ever gets here.
But then we will be 100% electric at the House of Elfordon, probably more so than most of you. Our passive solar house is all electric (no natural gas or propane on the premises) with solar panels on the roof. (double solar > double...
My estimate from last year was 1H2023. Then I went crazy and switched to an R1S in November 2022 only to switch back to Max Pack a few weeks later. Haven't had an estimate since then.
The January 31 delivery update emails have come and gone. I'm a whiny Max Pack reservation holder from July 2020.
I live so close to the factory, I see R1Ts and R1Ss driving around daily. (It was cool the first few sightings; it's torture now.)
On Feb 1, 2023, I'm at "Processing estimate" in...
I wonder how many of us max packers are left?
My reservation is july 2020. I have to be near the front of the max pack queue since it seems so many have opted for large battery. Wish I knew where in line I am.
So they HAVE shipped a few Adventure trim R1Ss. I just switched from a Max Pack and am awaiting my new R1S Adventure date in January. (Max Pack Order date: 7/2020)
Of course, in the sub-zero temps in the MidWest today, I'm thinking I might need to switch back to a Max Pack.
PS: If you guys...
