Getting back to the original subject. Remember Blackberry and people saying they only want a physical keyboard? The consumer reverts to legacy until you can prove a better interface.
Rivian has a patent on a series parallel switch that allows the battery to charge at 800vdc and run traction drive at 400vdc. This is likely the change that upped the max charging from 160kw to over 200kw.
I think the E-tron Has the dual charge port setup.
If it’s true that the Riv Twins have dual ports, it would be nice to plug in a jumper and daisy chain. Where you plug into 1 EVSE and the other is a double ended J1772 and you plug that into your other car. You’d only ever need 1 EVSE for a 2...
It also kind of looks like we’re getting charging ports on both sides with CSS DCFC on drivers and simple J1772 on passenger. If this is true it opens up a lot of possibilities especially with possible daisy chain charging.
Anyone else annoyed by the Fox NFL style graphics over a wannabe Apple Keynote? It’s over complicated and exhausting not exciting. Just tell us what you have in the pipeline Ford, oh and Denis Leary doesn’t make you cool.
So the systems are 400v nominal which is the current norm but Rivian’s has a patent to switch two halves of the battery to series when charging and back to 400v for the traction motor.
I think one of Rivian’s plans is to sell their technology to the big auto manufacturers. This would make the Rivian brand a niche vehicle in the market but it will keep the company sustained. The target market is an interesting question though.
Jeeps are way more capable off road? Not...
It’s completely possible that Seimens or Bosch or one of the other OE suppliers have systems that they have been working on and Rivian just hasn’t disclosed the source yet.
But the way Rivian launched is very Apple like. Have a product that’s nearly production ready. Provide 3 tiers of the...
Honestly Rivian is a premium brand and if they become the Jeep of the 21st century then that’s exactly the high margin market is looking for. Siri doesn’t try and sell you things Alexa does. Why would amazon put an App on an iPhone if investing in Apple ventures was unprofitable.
I digress...
Apple isn’t shy about branding, absolutely correct but apple is a consumer electronics brand and I don’t think they want to dilute/tarnish the brand with a potentially risky endeavor like an auto startup. It’s worthwhile to be a silent partner in development and wait and see to make sure the...
