How many ordering Launch Edition ?

Quite right that Tesla didn't really have any alternative. For whatever reason they did it it was an absolutely brilliant move. Indeed I think your lobbying will be more fruitful directed at Rivian than at EA. The easy and quick way out for Rivian is, of course, to take Elon up on his offer but...

How many ordering Launch Edition ?

There is always a way! Putting the vehicle on a truck is obviously one and perhaps the simplest but they managed to make it from Tierra del Fuego to LA so they ought to be able to make it from Normal to Jackson. One way to do it would be with a 48A Black Mamba (Level 2 portable EVSE wirh plug)...

How many ordering Launch Edition ?

And in so doing they would be emulating Tesla, that is, not expecting benefit through profit made by selling energy but benefit through wider acceptance of their vehicles as a viable means of transportation. IOW, these chargers are a marketing expense.

How many ordering Launch Edition ?

Obviously I don't know why EA has neglected I 80 whereas Tesla has numerous stations along it but I can guess. For Tesla the charging network "is not and never will be a profit center" quoth Elon. EA does not have any business, that I know of, other than charging cars and so they must make a...

If I make a mistake here I feel honor bound to admit the mistake and correct it. With Mrs. D, never!

    CCS question...

The beauty of our biphase system is that 240 is there but whereas one can see touching one of the parallel pins on a 14-50R he'd really have to work at it to touch both to get 240. Actually the 14-50R has three parallel pins so I mean it's hard to touch X and Y.

You are, I think, the only person here who has ever admitted to being wrong. I takes a big man to do that.

Rivian Service Centers / Retail Locations List / Other Facilities

There's to be one in DC. Well I hope it won't actually be in the District but rather in the metro area somewhere - prefferrably NoVa.

    CCS question...

No math. Just that we would expect Rivian to give us at least what Tesla does and that's a box for the frunk which can accept a number of adapters the most useful one of which is the 14-50R. No. 14 explains why the 14-50R adapter only allows the vehicle to draw 32A in the Tesla implementation...

How Miserable Is A Winter Tesla Road Trip? -18°C & Broken Superchargers

As it turns out if you do calculations of charging times using various taper breaks and slopes taper characteristics don't have that big an effect. Taper does have an effect, of course, it's just that it isn't as big as some seem to think. In addition to that the car changes it taper profile...

    CCS question...

No - not really. OP has a 14-50R receptacle on a 50 A circuit. As was made clear in the responses at the time of the OP he will be able to plug in his Rivian charger and/or any EVSE made by Rivian or Watzilla or anyone else (except Tesla - they don't offer plug-in HPWC any more) into this...

How Miserable Is A Winter Tesla Road Trip? -18°C & Broken Superchargers

There are lots and lots of videos out there made by people who basically don't know what they are talking about. This is not one of those guys! He does make the occasional mistake (he's human) but by and large you can accept almost everything he says. The most important takeaway from this...

    New Tesla Model S/X

I'm building a solar garage and debating questions like this. In either case you need a 60A drop to a potential charging location. If you aren't that concerned about neatness bring the drop into a junction box on the wall and then run a short conduit to whichever you box you ultimately choose...

    New Tesla Model S/X

Yes, not to keen on this but I'm open minded. According to the tweets that have been posted here the overrides are on the touch screen. Voice might be another way to override.

    New Tesla Model S/X

It would appear that the answer is "nothing". But this relies on the assumption that the Rivian vehicle will behave in the same way that the Tesla does. This is probably a fairly safe assumption. Of course you won't have a Rvian logo on your EVSE and fitting the Tesla Tap onto the Tesla wand and...

    CCS question...

This is an old thread but as it contains outdated info I thought I'd better point out that there are no plug in chargers with 14-60P anymore. 14-50P is the max under newer code. There is actually (AFAIK) one 14-60P unit still available but it is of questionable "legality" in the US.

    New Tesla Model S/X

One could connect up to 4 Gen 2 HPWC together such that the 80 A available from a 100A circuit could be shared between up to 4 cars. Communication between the master and 3 slave HPWC was done via sheilded twisted pair interconnecting them. A PITA because they want the STP run in its own conduit...

Anyone concerned about Touch Screens failure after a few years?

I explained the problem and the solution in simple, concise terms. Can you please point out which part(s) are (were) "snarky"?

    paddle shifters yes or no?

A couple of comments: The problem is caused by what Tesla calls "hill mode". If it is on the mechanical brake engages whenever the vehicle is stopped. This is so that the driver doesn't have to maintain brake pressure to hold position if stopped on a hill. Hill mode is on if regen is selected...

Elon says "...yeah, we're gonna allow other companies to use our Supercharging Networks..."

You will be able to take some comfort from the fact that the adapter, third party or auto OEM, will be "listed" i.e. tested and certified by a lab such as UL. Betcha can't destroy an Apple charging cord quicker than my wife.
