Received the check from IRS today for $8643.95 ($7500+interest). I had pretty much given up hope that it would ever be approved, but the appeal letter + documents worked!
Well I got a denial letter dated 2/4/2025 stating:
"We can't allow your claim for Form 8936 Plug-In Electric Drive Motor Vehicle.
Eligible Vehicles must be placed in service as follows: Qualified two-wheeled plug-in electric vehicles - acquired before but placed in service in 2022."
The letter...
Many thanks to Mygrain and all the other helpful posters in this thread. I used the advice posted here to complete the forms to apply for the $7500 tax credit (1040-X for Amended 2022 tax return, and 2022 version of form 8936). 2025 R1S Dual/Max with binding purchase agreement, delivery in...
For Pre-order holders the discount is much greater on a purchase than on a lease. We got nearly 20K off the purchase price of our R1S. So we decided that buying it was a much better deal than leasing.
Picked a 2025 R1S from shop on June 26, the next day got a text from the service center in Colorado Sprins saying expected delivery date is 7/24 but could change depending on how long it takes to get there from Illinois. Haven't heard anything since but assuming it's still on a train.
"Business friendly" is by definition anti-consumer in many ways. When you let businesses buy the legislatures and write the rules, the consumer tends to be on the losing end of things. It's mind boggling to me that this is surprising to people.
You're right, there were some Performance Dual motors for sure. All gone now but I'm sure they'll be back. I'm waiting for a Dual/Max with AT upgrade, but don't want to pay for the Performance upgrade. I'm pretty confident we should be able to get one before the vouchers expire, but I guess...
There are currently 17 2025 Dual/Standard R1S (but no 2025 R1T) vehicles listed in the shop for my zip code, with delivery in 1-6 weeks. It is still possible to use the voucher on a 2025 R1S from the shop, but so far options are pretty limited. I think they had some Dual Max configs available at...
I'm guessing refresh reveal with be the Dual motor only, and those who want Quads can get them in the shop at a discount till the new quads are revealed at some later date.
I"m also waiting for the refresh to use the voucher on a new R1S. Still hoping they eventually put a service center here in NM, seems like they will need one if they plan to sell R2 and R3 vehicles here in any real numbers...
And thanks to all who have posted. Seems R1S inventory is down to...
I'm in New Mexico and the closest service center is Colorado Springs. So I'm assuming I'm seeing available inventory for the CO/NM area.
Last week there were quite a few R1S vehicles in the shop, today I'm only seeing ONE. Still lots of R1T's available though.
Looking forward to the refresh...
From Reddit post:
"I had been in the same boat as an early reservation holder, pulled the trigger a few days ago when Rivian offered free Stealth package and picking up a R1S Quad next week.
For pre-price hike order holders, you get a $6250 discount when leasing instead of the 20% off...
Pretty sure if you lease the 20% preorder voucher applies only to the portion of the MSRP minus the Residual Value.
So if the MSRP is 90K and the residual value is 60K, you get 20% off of the 30K difference rather than 20% off the 90K MSRP.
EDIT - based on reddit thread with the same question...
As TheWoo noted above, the bulk of the savings is coming from the $7500 tax credit that is applied to the lease as a cap cost reduction, but not applied to the loan.
On top of that, as I understand it, when you lease you are financing a much smaller amount - in your example it would be
$83,750...
1. I think you're leaving out the "due at signing" costs on the lease which include:
$895 Acquisition Fee
$1800 Destination Fee
2. On the lease you're only paying interest for 2 or 3 years, and only on the difference between the total cost of the vehicle and the residual value. On the loan...
Received a promotional email from Rivian this past Friday, April 19. Among various other things there is this news:
•
Leasing is now available in Maryland, New Mexico, and Virginia.
They offered me free all weather mats to take delivery by EOY. Not exactly the most compelling incentive, but I do have the original pricing locked in. I'm in NM also and decided to wait till there is some word on a service center here.
Update: a couple days ago I got a call from Rivian, which I didn't answer. Shortly afterwards I got the below email. Sounds like they are really trying to hit their numbers for the year.
I responded asking when/where there will be a SC opening in NM and have not heard anything back yet. Still...
