So it's both longer and significantly wider than the R1S but no 3rd row...weird. Seems very off-road oriented but a bit too large to be practical. Like a Hummer EV maybe. Efficiency will be worse than R1 so it will need a huge battery to hit 350 miles of range. Styling looks good, nice to see...
Looks nice, but it's just a concept at this point, and some of those features may not make it to production - It's at least 3 years away from production, and highly unlikely the starting price will be anywhere near $60K. Pretty much every EV SUV and Truck has come in significantly higher than...
Glad to hear you've had a good experience with your Jeeps. I considered a GC 4XE trailhawk, but they were about $70K at the time, and I just couldn't justify that when the 4Runner was about $50K fully loaded and an R1S would have been about $75K.
Ancient and inefficient sure, but also extremely reliable and capable. Reliability is huge for me. 4Runners routinely last for 250-300K miles and they hold their value much better than an R1 (or any EV really) as far as I can tell. Living in the southwest I don't see frame rot as something to...
With the price/specs just leaked on the R2, it looks to me like a direct competitor with the 4Runner, although it is a bit smaller in length and height and will of course have way better performance.
I'll be putting in a reservation for sure. I'm really hoping it will be long enough to sleep...
Tesla is now partnering with another tribe to bypass state law, this time in upstate NY:

I agree, it's not looking like it will happen anytime soon. :headbang:
That's awesome, I'm jealous and have a great trip in your new Rivian! It is a gorgeous area, we've done some camping and a yurt ski trip there over the last few years.
Each tribe is its own independent entity, and there are a bunch of them here, each with their own laws and their own land and their own ability to make deals with whoever they want. It may well be that the two tribes Tesla reached deals with each made an exclusive agreement with Tesla, but that...
I don't think that's it though. Look at Idaho for example:
Boise - service center "coming soon".
Idaho: Population: 1.94 million. Per capita Income Ranking: 44th in the nation at $56,560 per year.
Boise metro area population: 765K. Boise Median income: $68K
New Mexio: Population 2.1...
That's *exactly the point* and why this arrangement works. It's Tribal land, and yet entirely within the state, and close to major population centers. Because it's Tribal land, outdated and protectionist state laws do not apply. So they can sell direct and service vehicles to those who live in...
Glad to hear that! How long do you think it will take Rivian to get these laws changed? I think it will be 3-5 years minimum, and I'd rather not wait that long. NM has a part time legislature that doesn't actually get paid a salary. It's pretty backwards for sure, things take a long time to...
No, I'm not normalizing it. It's shitty, but it's the reality in multiple states, and it will take years and millions of lobbying dollars to change these laws. I'm being realistic that they will not be changed anytime soon, and if there is a workaround I think they should use it.
Opening a...
And yet there are multiple states with no Rivian service center, and plenty of posts on this forum indicating wait times of over a month to get an appointment at existing service centers.
Main reason, not only reason. And I actually do care about all the other places too, just not as much as where I live. I would love for Rivian to be able to sell in every state. I would love for all the laws to be changed, and for Rivian to find all the workarounds that they can find to sell in...
1. No, the crappy laws are not Rivian's fault, obviously.
2. Audi is selling EV's at their dealer in ABQ. Ford is selling EV's at their dealers in ABQ and Santa Fe. etc. It's not EV vs ICE.
3. I'm not normalizing anything. Just pointing out that there is a solution that Rivian is not taking...
Actually my gripe is with Rivian AND our state legislators. These laws suck, but they actually don't need to be changed for Rivian to set up here and start selling/servicing vehicles.
As a stockholder I think they are missing out on a pretty large potential market by not doing so. NM is a huge...
Tesla now has 2 stores/service centers in New Mexico, both on Tribal land. The first is near Santa Fe and the latest one is near Albuquerque. Meanwhile Rivian refuses to deliver vehicles in NM and seemingly has no plans to open a service center here...
100% agree with this. Hopefully this is just the start of the EV price wars and real competition heating up. Should be the end of ADM on all other EV's as well.
Ioniq 5 and Audi Q4 E-tron are going to have a hard time competing in the US without a big price cut, as they are not eligible for the tax credit until they can start building them in the US. After the price cuts and tax credit the Model Y looks like a much better value than either of these...
