The R2 appears to be ribbon cooling on both sides of each 4695 cell. The R1 modules (2170 cell) were bottom plate cooled and shared between a top and bottom set of cells. Either option is acceptable as long as the thermal system is sized right.
Hopefully with the larger cell and ribbon cooling...
Keep in mind when they cycle test cells, itās in a thermal chamber at a constant temp and cycles between charge and discharge with only a short break in between. There is no liquid cooling. You will not use your vehicle like the cells are tested. YMMV. The way most people use their vehicle and...
Thatās one thing Iām fine if it doesnāt make it into production. The flashlight is kind of a gimmick but could be useful. The hand warmer will get used by very few people.
What do you want them to release?
Cost, range, and others are probably not finalized yet. I can see telling us which configuration will be built first. Maybe also telling the DCFC power rating. What else?
I agree. Make these fixed and pass along the savings to the customer. People will disagree with me, but itās adding complexity for not much customer value.
They probably donāt want to risk osborning R1S sales now for future R2 sales by releasing specs. Rivian needs all of the sales they can get now.
Also, they are likely still negotiating prices from suppliers so Rivian probably doesnāt know what the final sale prices are going to be.
If you need...
Profitability: if they arenāt selling as many, making a profit gets much harder. They will not be profitable anytime soon.
R2: where are all of the test vehicle sightings? We are approaching one year out from Rivians R2 start of production guidance. Testing should be underway and thus mule...
