New Gen 2 Rivian review video by Out of Spec

Rivian has MANY other avenues to gather inputs. A thousand or so engineers and technicians rigorously testing the vehicles under controlled conditions. Many employee owned vehicles providing feedback. Telemetry data from ~100,000 vehicles in the field, etc. I don’t think the OOS videos tell...

New Gen 2 Rivian review video by Out of Spec

Somebody on this forum said something to the effect he was single handedly responsible for Rivian make significant improvements to the vehicle. That is eye roll worthy. ?

Alex on Autos and the sister channel EV Buyer’s Guide are far better reviews.

2023 Gen 1 Quad vs 2025 Gen 2 Dual Standard

Regarding the HVAC noise. If you haven’t, put the system on AUTO. It is much quieter than manual.

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

Yes, that works. You have to manually trigger it and figure out the timing. Have the charging session finish just before you leave.

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

Correct. I think efficiency would be very similar across all R1T models (when considering Quad in conserve mode). Gen 1 large and Gen 2 large differ in range due to battery size.

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

Like DayTripping said, go the slowest you can to maximize range. Drag is a cubic function of speed so a little faster is a lot more draggy.

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

Thanks MK. I’ve been a fan of your posts on the Mach-e forum and here as well. I suspect that over time I will see a small heat pump benefit but it will be small. As notes elsewhere, the heat pump is a bit noisy. Sounds like the Gen1 when battery preconditioning is engaged but not quite that...

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

My guess on charging variation Is that it is due to temperatures. Temperature of the battery, variation in preconditioning effectiveness and charging equipment temperature. I really didn’t understand Kyle’s “outrage” over the max pack charging speed. YouTube drama to get clicks I suppose...

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

Good question about ABRP. It does give about the same answer. 20 minutes and 50 to 60 kWh energy to add.

R1T Gen 1 Quad Large vs. Gen 2 Dual Max Pack: Efficiency and Charging Analysis

I've been a R1T owner for about 2.5 years now. First a Gen 1 Quad Motor Large Battery which I recently traded in for a Gen 2 Dual Motor Max Pack. Combined, I have about 60,000 miles on the two vehicles. I'm a bit of a data geek (35 years experience as a Mechancal Design and Test Engineer)...

Out of Spec 10% Challenge of Gen2 R1T dual Max: Massively Negative!

And how would they make a profit by adding content and expenses into a product that is already gross-margin negative??? They had to cut cost to on the product to make it long term viable.

Out of Spec 10% Challenge of Gen2 R1T dual Max: Massively Negative!

Battery degradation has not been discussed enough in this thread. Kyle is focused on Speed Speed Speed. Battery health does not factor into his assessment. There are design trade offs we just don’t have visibility to.

Out of Spec 10% Challenge of Gen2 R1T dual Max: Massively Negative!

The motor disconnect is very subtle. In no way can it be called a bang. If he heard a bang, there is something very very wrong. Can’t comment on the AC. Have not been in hot weather since acquiring a month ago. The sound system seemed very bad at first, then I discovered the equalizer screen...

Out of Spec 10% Challenge of Gen2 R1T dual Max: Massively Negative!

KOC is hyper focused on charging speeds. The degree to which he is hyperventilating on this issue is a bit overdone. I have a gen 2 max pack now too. I put 25,000 miles a year on my R1T. The slower charging will impact me by less than 30 minutes per year I’m guessing. For me, the longer...

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

I miss the idea of them. But the reality is I never used rock crawl or sand mode. Rally you can get by turning stability off. The All Purpose steering mapping on gen2 feels about like sport did on gen 1.

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

Here is a bit more detail on my Gen 2 efficiency/range observations so far vs my Gen 1 and out Volvo XC40 recharge. This data is over the same route we take often. 165 miles mix of freeway and rural roads. Looks like the Gen2 efficiency is very close to the Gen 1 but the range is obviously...

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

Made a drive at 45 deg. The efficiency of the Gen2 was about the same as the Gen1 at that temp. I will continue to monitor and report.
