It's not just an EV thing - there are tons of new ICE vehicles sold with no spare tire nowadays in the name of "weight savings" (and probably also "cost savings.")
My BMW i3, my Tesla Model S, and my Ford Mach-E all came without any form of spare. My kid's Subaru WRX also came with no spare. My...
The only warning - some of the earliest "shipped without tonneau" still had the button. Because it was built for the powered tonneau, then they stopped shipping with powered tonneau due to quality problems. So there are quite a few trucks that have the powered tonneau, but it's either disabled...
I always do that. It's the "exact wording required to accomplish a task" I have a problem with. I can never remember the proper wording to turn on defroster. "Turn on defroster" doesn't seem to be it.
When towing across the Western US, there were segments where I didn't have a choice. Charged to 100%, arrived at next possible CCS station at under 5%.
There is no actual turtle shown, that's just a common nickname. The "power bar" on the speedometer shrinks as you get lower in charge. By 2%, power is reduced enough that when towing a trailer, you can't get past 30 MPH. By 1%, you're lucky to get above 20 MPH. (I've never gotten that low except...
HAH! Yep, I definitely drove like @OutofSpecKyle on my big road trip a couple years ago. Had three times I rolled into the charger on static (the EV equivalent of "fumes") - all three I was in turtle mode, unable to go faster than 20 MPH the last 1/4 mile. One if the charger I had pulled in to...
Dammit.
I really want "not Amazon" for my vehicle control. It doesn't help that it's completely useless if you don't use the exact precise wording it is wanting.
The rules changed in 2022. If you want to get the pre-change rules, you had to use the "amended 2022" method. Under the newer rules, you would apply for the credit in the year you took delivery on that year's taxes, rather than the amended 2022.
But the newer credit has a lot more restrictions...
What's funny is that for me, switching to Conserve made it worse. A service visit did resolve it, though. They replaced the half-shafts under warranty.
One of the amazing details is that - before the show started production, there were zero functional "full Rivian hardware/software" prototypes. They finished these two just before the show started. During the time the show was being filmed, these were the only two Rivian prototypes in existence...
Side note - my Ford Mach-E supports proper CCS Plug-and-Charge, but there is no way to get a member discount on either Tesla or Electrify America on it. Apparently when the Mach-E very first launched, it was possible on EA, (you would subscribe to EA through the Ford app) but that went away by...
I just entered a 2025 R1S VIN (found on an online vehicle sale listing) into the EVgo app, and it says it's ready to enroll, no complaint about unsupported.
1. You need a CC on file (to cover potential idle fees) even with free charging.
2. You can't get Telsa member rate except by authorizing in the Tesla app - no member rate with plug-and-charge.
3. Rivian doesn't support "standard CCS plug-and-charge" yet. So no plug-and-charge on ChargePoint...
Ceramic hydrophobic coating, reapplied every few months.
But during driving, the airflow will keep some water there, so it isn't the most helpful during driving, only when stopped moving. (Which can be the most important time.)
In my two-bay garage, I have two EVSEs on the sides just inside the garage door.
My Tesla, I'd park nose-in on the "left" side (looking in from the outside,) my BMW i3 I'd park nose-in on the "right."
Now with Rivian and Mach-E having their ports near the front, and being too big to both...
I had good luck with an EVgo in King City when I went up 101 with my trailer a year and a half ago. Big parking lot with plenty of space around the charge stall to pull in without blocking anything.
Yeah, I ain't holding my breath. The same was on the "coming soon in a software update" feature list when I took delivery of my Gen 1. Don't buy anything based on any "coming soon" promises. (See also Fisker Ocean, where half of its promised software-based features never came to fruition by the...
