Unscrew and pull out one pin and the whole thing, loaded or not, tilts out so you can open the back, top and...
1.97 mi/kWh. Seattle to Whistler BC on 23DEC2024 in our Gen1 R1S.
Yakima SkyBox on the rear two rail mounts and a Tyger ski rack in the hitch with 3 pairs of skis in it. Stock 20" Scorpion AT tires.
Kept the top speed mostly at 65 mph on the freeways. Roads were dry until close to Whistler...
I really like my Grizzle-E Duo charger up at the cabin. It just splits delivery equally until one vehicle says "full" then devotes full power to the remaining vehicle. It can be set at 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 Amps. I bought a J1772 to NACS adapter from Tesla for one of the plugs so my Tesla-owning...
Wait. What?
That's a thing? What carrier offers that? And did it confirm that Gear Guard live view on your phone qualifies for that discount? I'm very interested in this, thanks.
If you plan to drive through 3 feet of water, which our R1 vehicles are designed for - consider doing a quick check of your door seals first. I happened to notice my loose seal when I was washing the vehicle. Not sure whether this saggy seal would have allowed water in, but a quick check seems a...
Rivian's executives remember (or learned in Executive School) the Osborne Effect and probably work hard to keep functionality roadmap descriptions vague and noncommittal... If I had a description of Gen 1 versus Gen 2 features back in 2021, I probably wouldn't have waited.
When I discovered...
Confirmed: Android app version v4.28.1 (June 27, 2024 update for me) does not have trip planner capability. Also, I cannot create a trip at www.plugshare.com on my phone because it says I need a minimum display width of 1024.
Edit: I sent an email inquiry to them asking whether they plan to...
ACE Auto Repair and Tire
I've been with these folks for years, and had all my ICE needs expertly handled there. I just took my R1S to them for its first tire rotation and they were great. They've handled Rivians before, and I don't think they even needed my pucks. Best of all, it's drop-in...
This x100.
I rarely use DCFC, but recently needed to when towing a trailer. The world really wants me to spend 45 minutes unhooking, then rehooking so I can correctly line up at a charger for 15 minutes??
Killing me over here.
Down in Seattle, there's only one SC up and running (2 more are nearing completion), technicians must be super-busy. I planned to go to down and have them do my 7500-mile tire rotation and multi-point inspection as a mobile service. They said "pick one or the other, we can't book both for mobile...
Another option to consider: Grizzl-E Duo. Pulls from a single circuit and automatically shares across 2 vehicles when needed. Slap a NACS adapter on the second plug in the future and have one of each that can be plugged in simultaneously. Mine is working great!
I use the Grizzl-e Duo plugged into a 14-50 with a 40A breaker. The unit has a set of dip switches to configure the max amps. I set mine at 32A and it splits that power evenly across both EVs until one says "full" then gives all 32A to the remaining EV. Working great so far.
Only thing that...
I agree with @SoCal Rob : Rivian owners waving/winking is inversely proportional to density of Rivians. Up here in rural Washington, we are practically giving each other seizures on the rare occasions when we cross paths. Down in Seattle, where you can't swing a cat without hitting an R1,* you'd...
I have been using the portable charger as my primary outdoor-mounted charger since I got my R1S in August 2023. (My house has 100-Amp service and I only had room in my panel for a 40A GFI breaker, so the portable charger is actually max power delivery for me.) Mine hangs from the power cord...
Front v. Rear for chains - one more thing to consider: Clearance is very tight inside the front wheel, especially with 20's, because of the suspension/steering components. I wouldn't take a chance with even the slimmest chains there. Plenty of room on the rear wheels though.
My R1S has the loudest cabin wind noise of any vehicle I've owned (except for a 1966 Ford Mustang). Removing cargo bars helps, but it's still very annoyingly loud. I turned on adaptive sound, so the radio volume will automatically increase as I speed up. That helps a little. 🤷♂️
