R3X seats loon awesome. The outside still looks like a spectacled reindeer: a hard no from me.
The R2 is super small and looks like a clown car when a tall person stands next to it. I wonder if they hire only short Rivian employees to show it off. I predict women wonāt like it because itās not...
I'm sorry to hear about the bricking. Rivian has had seven years to solve this issue and still hasn't been able to do so. They stubbornly refuse to recall all vehicles.
I have a similar level of pain with Rivian vehicles and empathize strongly. Thank you for posting. Hopefully someone at Rivian is taking note (though I doubt it).
Ignore @Donald Stanfield; he's some kind of party apparatchik that deals only in propaganda.
Yes, totally. This forum is incredibly biased. Baseless attacks on Consumer Reports and other experts happen regularly because of a) the hopium of the weak-minded and b) massive losses in Rivian stock which the true believers want to recoup. It's like a mini Tesla meme stock thing. Then it gets...
Iām hitting this now, too. So far Iāve had this truck for only 8 months and this is the fourth major issue. First, a failing drive unit (replaced), then a latch failure in the tailgate, then a failed charger which bricked the vehicle (the tow truck skid marks are still on my permeable pavers)...
Farley is correct and it's a shame hydrogen isn't available outside of California.
Watch the Scout and Ramcharger EREV eat Rivian's lunch once they are released. The urban truck market is very small.
I believe they only recalibrated the level sensors. No parts replacement. I was really skeptical that would solve the problem, and itās still sometimes off, but by and large itās better.
This is an intelligent statement. You need real sensors for autonomy. Now maybe theyāll add a back a cheap 12V outlet in the frunk while theyāre adding all these super expensive sensors.
Let this be a lesson: the employees at the delivery center are not on your side. They are trying to move metal. They will not inspect the car rigorously like a dealership would. Or even inspect the car at all, as I have witnessed.
For months my R1S would lurch to one side. I started taking a measuring tape to all four wheels daily and logging the data for service. Eventually, after many recalibrations, they got it to the point where the variance was less than an inch across all the wheels.
I would be first in line for one of these. I would probably have the conversion company add a hydrogen fuel cell to it for long distance adventuring in California.
One issue is that these vans are FWD only, which isn't great. I wonder if it's easy to hack on a rear motor; will the drivetrain...
Itās really amazing that this vehicle has been designed for seven years now, and new ones are still bricking due to 12V battery issues. I donāt trust the replacement batteries either given the chintzy warranty.
Verifying that thing will work safely in various conditions is going be impossible with the shoestring budget they have. Rivian and Tesla canāt do it, either. Only Waymo can do it, and maybe under restricted conditions Volvo and Mobileye. Donāt use it.
I'm glad the heat pump is working out. It's a very smooth truck. I wish the bed were longer and I wish every car didn't have so many problems from the factory. Yours are actually pretty minor, but there should be zero issues for most people, and there aren't.
What kind of winter range are you...
I'm sorry that happened! Nothing's $11K is about right for the "real" repair from a Rivian approved shop. It's actually on the more conservative side; I would expect more like $15K. Even the non-approved shops will quote something similar.
I'm sorry, I'm not in Portland, so I can't give local...
Here's some more context from the article. This passes a sanity check, as 17,541 vehicles were produced during Q4 2023 (but only 14,000 were delivered). Production is down for Q4 2024: Rivian produced only 12,727. It's not a great trend.
This was almost exactly my experience before I upgraded to the Dual Max. The upgrade added only a small amount of range, but it was critical for opening up new winter destinations.
Is your destination in VT net uphill for you? That can really hurt range.
I think it would be fun to break it down by trip; most trips arenāt at the max speed. Average speed is usually much less.
I just broke it down for trips over 100 miles and the range at 55-60 MPH (the fastest bucket for which I have data) is 221 miles in the R1T. I donāt know whether that...
